I was a huge Lost fan and I'm a fan of everything jj Abrams has any part of. I have the same hesitation as you do about the pace of the show, but my bigger fear is that the network will kill the show prematurely based on the lack of a large profit margin that they get based on the production cost of the show compared to its ratings and consequential price per 30-second advertising spot.  The same deathblow is falling on Fringe because the advent of talent shows getting near the same ratings as high quality production shows at a much cheaper production cost, thus greater profit margin, will be the cause for the end of shows like Alcatraz rather than anything with the show directly.  As for the show itself, ignoring the business aspect, I love it.  They seem to have chosen to show how evil and brutal the criminals are, and thus increasing the urgency of their capture, rather than relying solely on the mystery of the supernatural events in which is the root of the whole scenario.  It has great potential and has earned a spot in my overflowing TIVO season pass list. I just hope there is some way to persuade the networks to reward shows based on quality rather than profit margin.
