The place on the web to discuss anything and everything SOCOM 4!
http://ps3.ign.com/articles/116/1169334p1.html this is what you get for releasing crap games nobody cares about. Did the seals even dare help you out with this game? I would be insulted if I was the Navy and this s^*@* carried the socom name.
You guys remember in Socom 1 how they had the making of videos and such, and the Navy said they only want their name on the best most realistic game play that lives up to what Navy Seals do? What the hell happend I could have sworn that as game consoles get better that the games we loved back then would take up or lives these days.. Guess not, I say fire everyone who worked on this title and get the old guys back in, or developers who know what we want. Id gladly pay over $100 for a "FULL" game with servers, mics, maps, and everything that makes a full game. How dare zipper and sony expect people to fork out 60 bucks for crap that doesn't even have a lobby within the first month of release. Insulting to us, the seals that is all....
Oh yea and why was this game delayed from the original November launch? It's not like we have a finished product here.....
ok if you read, they only fired ones who arent needed. all videogame companies do this. why the hell would you need someone who did the sound? exactly. although, this game still sucks.

thats what happens when u release ********. they could of laid off ppl from any of the other hundreds of companies from sony but they chose zipper. and they had to make it professional by using regular business practice as they reason why.. but there were clearly deeper intentions. didnt listen to core fan base..poor sales..and an unfinished game...
You are an idiot, if that was the case, they would have fired the Core team. Unfortunately they still work for Zipper.

Welcome to 3 days ago, they fired the extra designers.
By extra ddsigners, he means lead designers.
Here’s a fine bonus for the developers at Zipper Interactive, 33 of them have been laid off according to sources. Sony, who has owned the studio for almost five years, told Kotaku that it’s a standard practice to lay off people once the latest titles are launched.
What it sounds like is that there won’t be massive support for MAG and SOCOM, the games which Zipper Interactive has been responsible for.
There is some debate as to whether or not this is standard practice. Some studios say they do not do things this way and that they’ve got standard contracts while others hire staff on for a project, in this case the development of a specific title, and when that project is done, it’s entirely possible they might be let go.
Either way, we hope Zipper Interactive will continue on with operations as usual and continue to support their most recent titles. It certainly doesn’t appear that they have enough staff now to be doing too much development on new titles. Whether this is a cost-cutting measure for Sony, who is obviously going to post a big loss this quarter, or if it is the normal lifecycle of the studio remains to be confirmed.

you mean like people that have been there for several years and leads of departments?
Since everyone here is an expert in SDLC and what happens when a project is complete, I don't even know why I'm posting, but for those that don't and are wondering why this happened, it is typical business. Some of these guys, if i'm not mistaken worked on MAG and then transitioned to Socom basically, right? If there's no more product to put out, what's the point of keeping that many people(developers, QA, artists) to sit around playing games all day? do the math, if we're being conservative and the average of 33 employees comes to 70k, that's a 2mil savings a year. If another project kicks off, these guys come back, but more than likely the good ones stayed, and the more junior ones were released and probably knew that was coming. Calm the F down. Game developers are in pretty high demand, if they're good they won't be on the market long.
