Re: U3MP and FiOS Internet - Switching to Ethernet from MoCA Better?

Understood. I also turned off the Hardware Switch DSCP priority on the FiOS Router's Ethernet switch, and it did improve response in-game. Made it seem like FIFO worked better. IDK.

Hey Glowzor there is nothing you can do to combat your opponents' slow long distance connection.

I have spent a lot of time on streamlining and maximizing my bandwidth (comcast 30+down 7+up comcast). Setting up the router. Cat6 everywhere. Direct to modem connection. It still takes WAAAAAY too many bullets to kill some guys. I had a guy survive 3 mag5 shoys and a grenade under his butt, not exaggerating. I quit immediately. I played z guy with 1.5x speed. He also killed me in 2-3 bullets from his m9 several times. I mean put 8-10 rounds in him before he turns and kills me in 3!!

Naughty Dog needs to get us better options for avoiding it as much as possible. TOGGLE PLEASE!

I'm glad your maximizing your connection as best you can but I wont help anything but register your bs death quicker. Help those laggy bullets ping to you and back faster. His connection still wont receive your bullets any quicker. He lives you die... or if your lucky, he dies a few steps later.

Sad sad sad.

Well,

I finally got through the Verizon's LiveChat.  Of course they need to be on-hold to reach a technician like I was.  I left my call earlier on-hold for over 4 hours :smileysad:  They are really busy with that Manhattan service restoration.  Will post after results when the switch is done!

Verizon switched it!

Here is that ping difference to the first hop upstream router (note that the gateway IP changed):

Before the switch (from the OP):

C:\Users\GloZorCoMeTh>ping 108.49.145.1 -t

Pinging 108.49.145.1 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 108.49.145.1: bytes=32 time=7ms TTL=125
Reply from 108.49.145.1: bytes=32 time=12ms TTL=125
Reply from 108.49.145.1: bytes=32 time=9ms TTL=125
Reply from 108.49.145.1: bytes=32 time=7ms TTL=125
Reply from 108.49.145.1: bytes=32 time=9ms TTL=125
Reply from 108.49.145.1: bytes=32 time=9ms TTL=125
Reply from 108.49.145.1: bytes=32 time=10ms TTL=125
Reply from 108.49.145.1: bytes=32 time=7ms TTL=125

Ping statistics for 108.49.145.1:
    Packets: Sent = 8, Received = 8, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 7ms, Maximum = 12ms, Average = 8ms

After the switch:

C:\Users\GloZorCoMeTh>ping 108.20.201.1 -t

Pinging 108.20.201.1 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 108.20.201.1: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=63
Reply from 108.20.201.1: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=63
Reply from 108.20.201.1: bytes=32 time=2ms TTL=63
Reply from 108.20.201.1: bytes=32 time=3ms TTL=63
Reply from 108.20.201.1: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=63
Reply from 108.20.201.1: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=63
Reply from 108.20.201.1: bytes=32 time=2ms TTL=63
Reply from 108.20.201.1: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=63
Reply from 108.20.201.1: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=63

Ping statistics for 108.20.201.1:
    Packets: Sent = 9, Received = 9, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 1ms, Maximum = 3ms, Average = 1ms

Pretty interesting.  So using the Coaxial (note you may need to if you have TV through FiOS) adds almost 7-10 ms to the ping!  I will be playing U3MP later to see if there is any noticeable difference for me.

Meh, it won't make a difference if you are playing against 400-500ms lag beasts.

400-500ms? Hahaha, hardly considered lag in Uncharted.

Try +1000ms.

Ain't nothin' to it, gangsta rap made me do it.

It is interesting.  The issue is "Can you get your Data to the Host first?".  If you can, then the Host will think you killed them, so it remains true that you always want low latency download, and low latency upload.  You will technically "do better" with that.

You can never control someone else's connection, just yours to the Host.

Yeah,

They are interesting.  I am definately getting better connections in Matches, and I die quicker due to that better connection seemingly.  But I'll take the lower latency any day since the game responds so well with it.

I am still a big believer in putting the PS3 in a DMZ, turning off UPnP, and ensuring your latency is as good as possible.  I also figured out some Up and Down QoS settings on my FiOS router that really help me maintain the 1 to 10 more kills than deaths in FFA, which makes me happy.

I have my PS3 connected to the FiOS router with Ethernet, and the FiOS router connected with Ethernet to the ONT in our basement.

Very happy now :smileyhappy:

While the programming paradigm benefits the retroactive killer, this won't help excepting those cases between you and the host.

Lot of work for 6 ms, which is one 30th a human's average reaction time of 200 ms.
