ND, Why is everything invisible from outside a map?

(Btw ik this is nothing new) I never understood why If you get too far away from the actual map, all of the buildings and environment just vanish. What is the reasoning behind this?

Why are you glitching outside the map?
Naughtydog, you must bring back Charlie Cutter in Uncharted 4.

I think that's because of the particles implemented in to a map, they basically mask the environment just a thought though.

Not all polygons are rendered at all times. That's how most 3D engines work these days for efficiency reasons.

They use a technique called clipping: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clipping_(computer_graphics)
