I haven't read this whole thing yet but it wouldn't make sense for them to buy servers. there are companies (one major one iirc) who rent out server space in various countries. it's not terribly expensive to my knowledge (compared to buying the infrastructure) that's how most online game companies do it. you'd be connecting to a server near you. matchmaking then takes place from server to server. then you'd either do match making via servers close to you or not. most companies give you this option. if no one is there near you you might want to play with some brazillians

Lol I know Plus the rewind feature causes the game to freeze often
