It's fairly well known that The Last of Us borrows small references from films and books such as The Road and No country for old men. After reading The Road you're given a pretty accurate understanding of how much our morals would deteriorate and how far we'd go just to live. Or in some other circumstances there'd be mass suicides as a means of escaping that kind of life, and in this game it would definitely be a hard decision on whether or not surviving is worth it.
So far we've seen a few corpses here and there in gameplay snippits, take for example the deceased couple in the bathtub. Now that's fairly dark, but after reading The Road it's merely a small disappointment in your day in comparison to the things witnessed in the book.
I'm curious as to how far Naughty Dog will go, and how disturbing they'll make it. I'm talking things like cannibalism; in the film adaptation of The Road they come across a group of cannibals with dismembered people in the basement. Yeah. There'd probably be mass executions, therefore leaving lines of corpses or worse a burned up pile of them.
Now I'm not suggesting I get my kicks from these things but they would definitely give the game a hefty boost in really emphasizing how dark the concept really is. If you read this far, thank you. Have a cookie or something, you've earned it.
They've shown at least two people being hanged in the trailers. I think they'll go pretty far.
True, but the Road has 4/5 from memory, a family infact - now that's pretty messed up. The dudes/dudettes being hung were likely a result of hunters saving the ammo hence the two guys walking under them in the trailer, rather than a suicide which IMO is more depressing.
About as dark as that little kid.
Sounds kinda racist.
