Wont Go Past Playstation Screen

When i turn on my playstation it goes to the screen with the waves in the background and will not go past it. Is there anything i can do to fix it myself if you have any feedback please reply. I have the 80 gig the one with only two USB ports in the front.

Try to put the PS3 into Safe Mode as described below.

It is possible that your hard drive has failed, but you can try a couple of things in Safe Mode to verify that.
