My old ps3 crapped out about 2 weeks ago(red light of death). I was able to do the temporary fix to get the game disk out and so I could transfer the memory to the new ps3 I bought. Only problem is, when I go to transfer the memory my old ps3 says it can't find the ethernet cable, so I'm stuck with how to do it. So 2 questions.
1.Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
2. If I store everything in playstation plus(online storage) can I then transfer everything from my old ps3 to my new ps3?

Playstation Plus Online Storage only stores PS3 game save data. Nothing else. It isn't a general backup solution. It will allow you to copy your locked game saves to another PS3, which you can't do with the backup utility. Everything else except for Playstation Store videos you can either transfer to the new PS3 with the Backup Utility, install again from game disks, or download again from the Playstation Store. The Data Transfer Utility is only absolutely essential if you have purchased videos from the Playstation Store that you want to transfer to the new PS3.
When you connect the old PS3 to your router via the same Ethernet cable, does it detect the cable then?

My PS3 isn't hooked up to the net via ethernet, I got wireless, so I'm not sure what my old ps3 says if I connected the cable to a router.
Just to make sure I'm understanding what you are saying. If I transfer data onto playstation plus(let's say NCAA football dynasty). I can then get access to that dynasty with my new PS3? The only things I'm really wanting are my sports dynasties/careers(Tiger Woods, FIFA, NCAA) just because that's A LOT of time spent. I can live with having to redo Batman/Uncharted/ets again since they were kick @$$ to begin with

Any PS3 game save data that you copy to Online Storage can be copied to any other PS3 that you have a login profile on. You can use it to transfer save data from any of those games to a new PS3. Some of those games, including Uncharted, can have their save data simply copied to a USB thumb drive, and transferred to the new PS3 that way. You only need Online Storage for games that don't allow their save data to be copied to a USB storage device or memory card.
