I guess sony does this on every firmware update since 3.56 my ps3 wouldnt read my games now i hear some ppl are having same issues but with the new firmware 3.60. also there has been problems with the passed updates i guess they let a virus out just for some ps3 and not all of em so we will have to pay to get our ps3 fix
I copied and pasted my comment from another thread I posted on, but this seems to have fixed my problem of not reading any type of discs after my 3.56 update.....
Had the bluray disc issue after updating to 3.56 and no improvement when updated to 3.60. Made 4 calls to Sony consumer srvcs and they didn't recognize there being any problems that they were aware of. Problem began immediately after performing 3.56 update. I was playing Need for speed-hot pursuit online-game froze and then system wouldn't even recognize disc of any type being in the system. No help or ideas to fix from Sony whatsoever. They sent me a box to send it back. Mine is a 3 month old slim 160gb and still under warranty. I was reluctant to send it back to Sony b/c I figured as soon as I did, they would release a new software update to fix problem. That still hasn't happened, so this is what I did and it seems to have fixed it so far.......
Last weekend I performed a quick hard-drive re-format with no improvement. However, last night I performed a complete re-format that took just over 9hrs to complete and system is back to reading discs. Hard-drive is wiped completely clean/erased but at least we can use our PS3 again. Have not performed any updates since re-formatting and games are not freezing-only played it for approx 20min-it was 2am when re-format completed. I will hopefully be updating this thread later and letting you all know that this did cure this problem.
zero, we're still in the same boat.
Played a game for approx 45-60min without a glitch and then back to game freezing up and after resetting system, system doesn't recognize any type of disc. Out of ideas to correct, so I guess I'm sending it back to Sony.
