Let's start with this, I'm from Canada I know that most games on a PS3 are region free. My problem Is about DLC though. If for example, I buy a widely popular game like COD:MW3 or Fight Night Champion or Gran Turismo 5 in Asia or Europe; and I decide to buy the corresponding DLC back in Canada; will they be able to work with each other? I'm currently spending my vacation here in The Philippines (region 3) and I bought fight night champion for roughly $8.00 I know it's region free and it will work when I bring it back to Canada, but if I get a PSN card when I go back to Canada and download all the DLC, will it work with the game even though I didn't buy the game in Canada?
DLC are region locked. The DLC region must match that of the video game. You will have to purchase the Fight Night Champion DLC at the Philippines' PSN or equivalent store.
Thank you very much. I will try to return it if I can, but if I can't it's no biggie. It's only $8. I just wanted to make sure and I didn't want to waste any PSN cards. Btw, are all DLC region locked? I think I read somewhere that EA games DLC are region free.
I doubt you'll get a refund but you can try.
As far as I am concerned & aware all DLC is region-locked.
All DLC is specific to a Playstation Store. The question is whether the DLC is compatible with all regional editions of the game. In general, the answer is no. The fact that PS3 games are not region-locked doesn't mean that the same disk is distributed worldwide. The disks are still region-coded, but the PS3 will play game disks from a different region than your PS3 is currently set for. The DLC is built for a specific region-coded version of the game disk; and will not work with game disks from other regions, mostly because the DLC doesn't contain the text and audio files for the other regions. Some publishers release games worldwide at the same time with all languages supported on each disk, so it would be possible for them to release a single DLC package for all regions; although it would be larger than one that was for a specific region. It is on a case by case basis, but in general you should not assume that DLC will work with a game from a different region. It usually does not. Sony generally does not give refunds for DLC, but you have nothing to lose by asking.
