I just bought a 51 inch Plasma Samsung. I can play Resistance on it in 3D. The only Bluray 3D movie I have will not work. I get an error after I start up the movie. It changes resolutions a couple times... goes completely dead black (like it is off) and then displays an error message saying I do not have a 3D television or I should check my settings.
I am running in 1080p with a high speed HDMI cable.

By any chance are you trying to force your PS3 to run in 1080p all the time? If so, I suggest you change it back to "Automatic".
The PS3 isn't capable of showing a 3D movie in 1080p, only in 720p....

Thanks for replying.
No it wasn't being forced. I had all the available resolutions available to my PS3. I just now forced it into only doing 720p. Which gives me a different error message which I can read in 3d. It says:
"This Bluray Disc requires a Blu-Ray 3D player connected to a 3D display. Your Blu-Ray 3d player has not detected that it is connected to a 3D display. This may be due to display capability or an equipment connection issue. Pleas consult your Blu-ray 3D player manual or player support website for more information."
Then I hit okay and it takes me back to the PS3 menu.

OK, I think the problem might be your HDMI cable. There might not be anything wrong with it per say, but for some reason TVs & PS3s react differently depending on the HDMI cable used. So I suggest you try a different brand HDMI cable than you are using now...

Hello new poster,
What I would like you do is go over to Display Settings in your PS3 XMB menu, and select Automatic for your display settings, if during that you don't see the prompt.......3-d TV detected please enter the size or something like that, and then the NTSC, 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p and 720p 3d, 1080i 3d, 1080p 3d should be displayed as your options.
Or you can do a video reset by holding down the power button from standby, I'm to lazy to tell you specifically how to do it but if you go over to the knowledge base section it will have step by step instructions on how to perform it.
You need to get the right HDMI, did the Rocketfish HDMI say that is high speed or ultra high speed, if it did not say it was for 3d or 1.4a HDMI standard you will need another one. And unless you have a home theater unit that says it is also designed to pass thru 3d and 7.1 audio you will need to go right to your TV with HDMI and use the optical digital out (and 5.1 ss)
And Logical Dolphin got that one backwards....the ps3 has little to no problem displaying movies in full 1080p 3d, it is the video games that are limited to 720p 3d. Might I recommend, How to Train Your Dragon in 3d was very nice, captain america 3d was also done well for the blu-ray....Harry Potter DH2 was MEH...the only effect that was good was near the end.

I'm glad I was wrong about the resolution of Blu-Ray 3D playback on the PS3.
As far as 3D movies are concerned, I recommend Hugo, it has the best 3D effects of any 3D movie I have seen recently...
