To Whom it may concern

To whom it may concern

Recently there has been an MLG Starhawk Tournament in which many members participated and enjoyed their time. The leader boards have ended and with it the tournament. I would like to shed light on the events that happened. The tournament was constructed with a single determining factor - wins. People within and outside the community of Starhawk tried to get wins anyway they can. I myself will not blame them but here are the ways you could have ‘cheated.’

The ground rules must first be established before continuing, these are all in the rules at MLG hall of play. “Any use of robotic, automatic, micro, programmed or like entry methods will void all such entries by such methods, and disqualify any person using such methods. If, for any reason, the Tournament, in MLG's sole opinion, is not capable of running as planned, including, but not limited to, by reason of infection by computer virus, bugs, worms, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes beyond the control of MLG which, in MLG's sole judgment, corrupts or affects the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of the Tournament, MLG reserves the right at its sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Tournament and proceed in such a manner as may be deemed fair and equitable by MLG in its sole discretion.” and “Participants who violate any rule, gain unfair advantage in participating in the Tournament, or obtain winner status using fraudulent means will be disqualified.”

Now within the community there are various ways, in my opinion, in which these rules were violated these will be in more detail in the following paragraphs; clan stacking, idle players, split screen gameplay, game jumping, team switching, team suiciding, four man servers and non randomized teams.
Clan stacking is should be very obvious. This occurs when a clan places a clan tag on one side of the team to make sure that only one clan can join one side. The game is defaulted to start when two players on both teams are present, so what a clan could do is place more than two players on one side and simply wait for the game to start. The team has an ‘unfair advantage’ by having more players on one side ON PURPOSE from the start. Evidence for this is found on youtube by searching “Clan Stacking to Win a tournament” here is the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9lSyAIrr2k.
The next way is game jumping, this is much harder to catch/prove. It can occur when a player would join a game see if they could win/ their team would win shortly and stay then leave during the beginning of the next game if they decided they would not win quickly. I do not think was a regular occurrence, and could not find any RECORDED evidence for this.

Team switching is obvious and is a fraudulent win. Team switching can happen when a player is about to lose/going to lose and waits to switch to the winning team before the game ends. I also could not find any RECORDED evidence of this.
Team suiciding can happen in all game types, mostly affecting team Deathmatch. The ‘suicider’ would kill himself multiple times to lower the score of the winning team, helping the other team to win. Evidence for this is found on youtube by searching “Starhawk : The Suicidal “Cheater” here is the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRbGyMAHsnU and another one is found by searching ‘Starhawk noobs cheating’ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xItWzUGEP40.
Idle players and split screen gameplay I will attempt to explain at the together. If idle players are in a game to start the game an idle player receives a win. This win was not earned by any of the idle players. If idle players are used in split screen to receive wins then the winning team has not ‘played anyone’ and still received a win. Idle players sometimes are the host and leave the server on to ‘dedicate’ the server to the Starhawk community.
Split screen gameplay is very messy but a great feature when used correctly. To find split screen gameplay one has to mute a player and if both players are muted at the same time then the accounts are related. Spilt screen can be used to start a game, then have one of the players on the split screen can leave making a team have one less player. Split Screen can also be used to have one player get wins while the other person is idle.
A non-randomized team is a good thing if used correctly, it helps to make clan battles and ways for players to always play with their friends. Non-randomized servers can also be used to make sure all the ‘good players’ stay on one team to roll through other teams, this is the hardest to prove if people are using this for one way or the other.
Four man servers (FMS) is tricky and I will try to explain my point. FMS can be run by two players with both accounts having split screen accounts on the opposite team earning wins as fast as they can. FMS can also have non-idle players playing each other, with team randomization off one team can be the ‘good players’ and the other the ‘losing players.’ In this scenario everyone has one account active no split screen and no idle players but the winning team is beating the losing team for many consecutive hours in a row. This is the hardest to prove but I will attempt. Using the Starhawk Uplink provided by Lightbox Interactive I have gathered data on the top forty-six players. The wins per minutes is calculated and the data is as follows: (some names I had trouble finding so I did not put their numbers these are towards the bottom). EXCEL FILE. This is highly suspicious, when a player has an average play time for every win under five minutes. Games can be fair and very competitively won in under five minutes but to have that many wins consecutively is very suspicious. Since FMS can only be joined by four players than a normal player can not join these to see what is happening and can only hope that someone else was watching.
The following are videos concerning the tournament and I thought they were relevant. These videos are so short it is hard to tell what exactly is going on but here they are. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yl44wGPau8Y&feature=relmfu and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qnU14lNmG5A&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Thanks for reading this

If GB had merged with MLG sooner would I have been considered an MLG pro? If GB is the minor leagues of MLG does that make me some kind of AAA affiliate world champion (TIMES TWO FOR YOUR INFORMATION)

you can ask the mods to merge them all to the original MLG thread, I'm sure they would oblige if you did so.  :smileywink:

It is what it is Pilgrim. If they merge it then they merge it. Should've had lag switching on that list because I know for a fact someone in this thread does that.

Anyways MLG boost padding fake wins CAPITAL LETTERS blah blah blah

In case anyone missed in from the last thread.....
Nobody cares. We play to have fun. Not to earn a living....or $3 an hour. :smileywink:
