If you come from the generation of gamers that never had access to patches or updates (as do I) then you would also remember that in those days, more often than not a game was released when it was finished. There were good games and bad games back then, much as there are today, but you didn't see games rushed out the door to meet arbitrary deadlines. There were no review embargos, and whatever games journalism existed was almost certainly more objective than today's—and less inclined to sell their opinions or blatantly favor powerhouse publishers.
In short, if you're really from that generation then you won't be grateful to LBI for what they've done with Starhawk. Starhawk was released in an unfinished condition, rushed out the door to meet an arbitrary deadline. LBI has done a mediocre job of fixing it post facto, which is nothing that deserves our adoration. Almost every single thing about this game is the screaming antithesis of the days of yore. Twenty years ago, Starhawk would have been the $10 bargain bin game your buddy's senile grandmother got him for Christmas, and that he kept trying to convince you to trade away a Ninja Turtle action figure for.

Are you joking? What could compete with Voltron, Battle of the Planets, Thundercats, Transformers, Scooby Doo, He-Man, Heathcliff....??
You guys had what??? Captain Planet? ![]()
And you can't use cartoons not intended for children like South Park, that was essentially still made for our generation ![]()

Yes indeed the times have changed. Significantly. I believe the intention of this thread was not to praise the game as it was released but that the developer is doing what it can to make it better. Based on opinions of the community and provided it has the support and funding it needs.
It's not always cut and dry as to why things do or do not get fixed. That is not our job, is our privlidge to whine and complain about things we don't like. Our personal perspective on what needs to be "improved" may just not be attainable give the resoursces available.
LBI is trying. Despite the fact of all the hate and cynicism (spelling?) and for that I give them credit. For them to stick by a game that so many people claimed to be "doomed" is a testament on their part.

While I'm thankful for Dylan and his studio's on going improvements to their game, I do get tried of all the "Johnny come lately" praise for the game and LBI.
We could send all day debating the raw deal LBI may have got by a forced release date but who's at fault doesn't change the fact we are now five months into a post-release beta. At least when it comes to on-line play.
I too, as the original poster stated, am glad the game has got and will continue to get some of the community inspired features and tweaks but that doesn't excuse LBI for the overblown hype about the game's single player or the lack of insight on Sony's part for letting Starhawk out of the gate in such a broken and unfinished state.
This problem is not a new one. Many "would-be-great" games the last few years have suffered the same fate. Sadly, I have a growing library of them on my shelf. But I was really hoping the makers of the first console multiplayer game I ever truly got into (Warhawk) wouldn't be one of them.
Yes, Dylan has reached out more than most studio presidents and taken lots of grief for it, but all of us here on this forum wanted Starhawk to succeed, well before I leave out a few trolls, MOST of us did.
I only keep ranting about things as a reminder to Sony and their developers that the buyers of their games have just about had it with unfinished product hitting the shelves.
We won't keep pre-ordering games if every time we do, we feel screwed and then must wait months (if ever) for the game to at least be in a playable state so we can enjoy it.
