.::Starhawk Information Center::. | [UPDATED] June 6, 2012 |

The Starhawk™ Information Center is your one-stop shop for all the information you are looking for on Starhawk, Sony, and LightBox Interactive's newest installment in the Warhawk universe. This thread will constantly be updated with new information, images, articles, interviews, and videos on everything Starhawk and its developer, LightBox Interactive. If you wish to make a contribution, please let me know. Your efforts to make this Information Center knowledge-enriched are highly valued by the PlayStation fans, LightBox Interactive, Sony, and me.

If you notice any typos or mistakes, please let me know, and I will fix them as soon as possible. Thank you for reading

Apart from adding a 'Trophies' section and a new female character in the single player campaign, the most recent update wasn't too special. As mentioned, a new section has been added for trophy enthusiasts (like me, LOL) to view the trophies, get help, and even participate in a contest for a $20 PSN card. The new female character is a surprising announcement because there was no mention of her before a month ago. I'm sure a lot of female gamers will like her, and they may even be able to use her as future DLC or PSN avatar.

I also added a few more pictures, videos, and images for people to view, so have at 'em! Let me know if you notice any typos, errors in links, feedback, etc. Thanks for reading!

Starhawk is finished! Recently, Dylan Jobe announced that Starhawk has finally gone "gold," meaning it is completely finished with development! The exact announcement can be read here. I have to be honest, I wasn't getting my hopes up for Starhawk to be released on May 8 as Sony stated months ago because Sony has a hard time with releasing games by their initial release date. However, LightBox and Sony pulled it off, and I am happy for them

Some might think that since LightBox is finished making Starhawk that they'll completely forget about it and move on to something else. Well, I'm proud to say that LightBox has stated that they will continue to support Starhawk and have a contract with Sony which allows them to continue to create free patches for Starhawk, in case something needs to be updated, added, or changed.

This is great news because it means that if there is something that a majority of the Starhawk'ers hate, LightBox can change or fix that problem. Not to mention, this also means Starhawk will have DLC down the road, hopefully the caliber of 'Omega Dawn', 'Broken Mirror', and 'Fallen Star' in Warhawk. There's no telling what we'll be getting, but I'm sure it will be awesome

Take a look at this picture, and ponder on what it is and what it means for Starhawk.

This is just concept art, but I recently came across an actual digitally-designed version of the aircraft in Starhawk. This had my mind working because it could mean that we might see a game mode or player-interactive carrier ships. If true, then Starhawk will be much more awesome - I mean, who doesn't want to spawn on a giant carrier ship, hop into a Hawk, and fly to the enemy carrier ship to cause chaos or help bring down the enemy carrier ship? It would be so cool to do something like that.

If you've ever played Star Wars Battlefront II, then you know what I'm talking about: players could battle on the carrier ships, dogfight in space, or sabotage the enemy carrier ship; the teams whose carrier ship first became inoperable lost the game. I believe that a similar game mode in Starhawk would be very engaging to the players and boost the fun factor by a large majority. If you like this idea, help support it and bug LightBox for the game mode. Until then, we can only wait and hope.

****EDIT****

A few days after this post, a trailer was released for Starhawk's single player campaign, and it showed Emmett Graves hopping into a Hawk and boosting out of docking bay of a large ship in space. This no doubt means that there are giant dropships in Starhawk; as far as if players will be able to interact with these ships is uncertain at this point, but the answer will be discovered in a few days.

Starhawk is a "spiritual successor" to the blockbuster Warhawk, for the PlayStation 3. Scheduled to be released on May 8, 2012, Starhawk will be similar to Warhawk but with a sufficient amount of changes - according to Dylan Jobe, Starhawk "...has Warhawk's essence but is also bigger and better." Not to mention, Starhawk will take place in space and on planets. Furthermore, Starhawk will give players an extensive amount of freedom and huge maps like its predecessor did, yet gravity barriers will still be present.

Similar to Warhawk, Starhawk will allow players to fly but with using mech fighter-pilot suits this time around; allow players to drive vehicles such as Razorbacks, jetbikes, and Ox Heavy Tanks; allow players to run on the ground or hover with Vultures. Dropships, the large ships in the Omega Dawn DLC for Warhawk, and APCs may be present in Starhawk, but these vehicles have not been announced yet and may be added as DLC. A hopeful feature that some fans are hoping for are large ships to allow players to fly in and out of landing docks and access the large ships and fight inside these ships; this feature hasn't been confirmed in Starhawk, though.

Starhawk will provide an extensive amount of weapons, like Warhawk, for players to use to kill their enemies. The weapons in Starhawk may or may not be upgraded versions of the current weapons in Warhawk. Using a weapon-selection system similar to that of Red Dead Redemption, players can select weapons quickly.

A few popular features that are present in Starhawk are extensive clan features, new game modes, custom tournaments, an iOS/Android app, and immense customization. These features have been revealed by Dylan Jobe via Twitter, face-to-face interviews, and article updates from various websites. Urgent Fury was given the chance to test out the tournament features of Starhawk, but they are contracted under an NDA and cannot comment on the tournament features right now.

As quoted from the LightBox Interactive Developer Blog

It's about damn time!!! -- We're finishing up the last bit of testing and "packaging" so we can deploy the Starhawk 1.01.001 Update world-wide early next week!

Please know that this is just the first of many updates that we're going to be doing to tune Starhawk's gameplay. We know this update alone does not "fix" all issues and achieve perfect game-balance, but it should address a number of key issues.

Our plan to reduce "base-ravaging" is a multi-stage process and this is just the first step towards that goal. We have also included a few other changes including a much "snappier" Homing Missile!

  • B&B OutPost cost reduced from 8 to 4 Rift
  • Field Mechanic Skill now auto-repairs Hawks far more slowly
  • OX Tank HE Shell direct-hit damage reduced by 33%
  • OX Tank HE Shell blast damage reduced by 33%
  • OX Tank HE Shell now has slower rate of fire
  • OX Tank HE Shell accuracy has been reduced a small amount
  • OX Tank vehicle construction cost increased from 2 to 4 Rift
  • Hawk Cluster Bomb blast damage reduced 40% per bomb
  • Hawk Cluster Bomb blast damage area reduced from 30' to 20'
  • Hawk Cluster Bomb blast damage fall-off increased
  • Hawk Shield damage absorption-capacity has been reduced by 50%
  • Hawk Cloak time has been reduced by 33%
  • Hawk Homing missile Max speed has been increased by 25%
  • Hawk Homing Missile target acquisition speed has been increased by 70%
  • Hawk Homing Missile thrust-delay reduced by 50%
  • Player Complaint System is enabled
  • SkillScore now factored-in for Matchmaking
  • Updated "Player-Danger" icons & logic for server-list
  • Auto-Turret dismantle now twice as fast

Build & Battle Outposts
In the release version of Starhawk, the Outposts cost 8 Rift and we've reduced that to 4. This significant reduction will greatly help teams increase their team's controlled regions on the map and even this one change should reduce base-ravaging by providing teams with more options for spawning locations.

Field Mechanic Skill
There were some very savvy pilots who were using Cloak, Shield and the Field Mechanic Skill in such a way as to be almost unstoppable on the battlefield. While we applaud that kind of tactical use, it nevertheless resulted in very lop-sided engagements and we had to take action. Now, if you equip the Field Mechanic Skill, your Hawk will not auto-repair as quickly which results, in concert with the Shield adjustments, in a significant reduction in "invincible" pilots.

OX Tank & High-Energy Shell
The OX Tank was very powerful, and rightly so... its a TANK! That said, it was a bit too powerful. Even our Tank-Divas here in the studio agreed. To help get the OX in better balance with the Starhawk's overall combat economy, we are making a number of changes. Firstly, it now costs more to build the vehicle at the Depot. The Depot itself still costs the same. But now the OX costs 4 Rift when you build it from the control panel.

We have also made a number of changes to the High-Energy Shell. This is the fast, almost rail-gun like shell the OX can fire. We've reduced the damage of a direct-hit as well as the area of effect damage. Previously it not only had super-high direct impact damage, but it's AoE was potent enough to make it simply brutal against troops -- when the real role of the OX needs to be more about anti-vehicle and anti-structure. We also slightly reduced the accuracy and increased the time between the first and second shot so that it couldn't be used as such an effective long-range-anti-troop-rail-gun.

We have not included any changes to the OX Tank's Artillery shell at this time.

Hawk Cluster Bomb
The Cluster Bomb was OP. There is no doubt about that. Sure it feels fun to rain death on group of enemies... but let's be honest, we all felt a bit dirty doing it! We have decided to reduce the damage per-bomb *AND* shrink the area of effect of each bomb by 40% and 33% respectively. We have also added softer damage attenuation to the Cluster Bomb's AoE to help make them still effective against Vehicles and Structures and not so focused on troop ravaging.

Hawk Cloak & Shield
These two weapons really spice up the Hawk's use on the battlefield but as we noted with the changes to the Field Mechanic Skill, there were also some changes that needed to be made to bring these weapons -- and the Hawk in general -- into better balance.

The amount of time a pilot can stay cloaked now has been reduced by 33%. This is still enough time for it to be used to get out of a sticky situation, but not too long such that a nefarious Hawk pilot can engage in perpetual *AND* invisible base-ravaging.

The Shield also got nerf'd and no longer can absorb as much damage before breaking. The reduction was pretty significant here and now the Shield only absorbs 50% of what it could previously. Again, much like in the Cloak situation, it's enough damage absorption to give you a "out" if you're in trouble but not long enough for it to yield degenerate bombing runs or dogfights when used in combination with some skills or other tactics.

Hawk Homing Missile
This game balance update includes some dramatic changes to the Hawk's Homing Missile and these changes were focused on one key goal -- get the Homing Missile tracking its target faster and get it to impact its target faster. Now of course we need to make sure it's balanced so we're obviously not making the Homing Missile an instantaneous 1-shot kill!

So we've increased the thrust on the missile so that it has a higher top-end speed and the target has less time to scrub the missile. This thrust increase also includes a faster thrust activation time so when you do deploy a Homing Missile, the thruster kicks in far quicker and this gives it a "snappier" feel in combat. Lastly, we greatly reduced the amount of time the Homing Missile takes to maneuver towards it's locked target. This isn't the amount of time it takes to get a lock, but rather, the amount of time it takes the Homing Missile to steer and acquire its target while in-flight.

Player Complaint System
We've also enabled a system that allows players to anonymously flag other players for moderator review. Our Moderator Team has a special Starhawk system that displays a list of all players around the globe, how many complaints have been filed for each player and what kind of complaint.

This allows players to help "police" the games and get our Moderators into their games to render judgements more quickly. Moderators can watch individual players and can join games even when the game is technically "full" or password protected.

To file a Player Complaint, simply select a player's name from the Scoreboard and you will see a new "Player Complaint" item in the pop-up menu. Select it and you will be presented with a few options for the kind of complaint you want to file: Cheating, Harassment, Vulgarity and Bad Builder.

QuickMatch, Server-List & SkillScore
When we launched Starhawk, we intentionally had SkillScore matching disabled for QuickMatch. This update re-enables this feature. If you select to join a game through Quick Match, the server will do its best to put you into a game that more closely matches your SkillScore -- or more accurately a +/- range around your SkillScore.

We have also changed the way "Player-Danger" icons are displayed in the Server-List. Preivously, you would see servers in the list have 1 of 3 icons displayed next to the connection strength of the server: Pink Cake, Yellow Fist or Red Skull. These indicated the average SkillScore of the server. So you knew a server with a Red Skull was dangerous to you. However due to another issue, high-SkillScore players were still allowed to join "Cake" games. This resulted in lots of newbie players getting worked-over by the best of the best. Until this issue is resolved, we have disabled both Cake and Fist icons.

So now, you will only see Red Skulls in the Server-List to warn you that game is filled with players that are "better" than you. Although you should note that playing in a Red Skull server can yeild faster SkillScore growth due to you battling with players that have higher SkillScores -- so the choice is yours!

Faster Auto-Turret Dismantle
The auto-turret animation we shipped with was too long and resulted in players just getting ravaged by other turrets or players. The new dismantle animations is *WAY* faster and feels a lot better in the heat of combat.

What're We Working on Next for You Guys?
Well of course we are finishing the testing of our 1.01.001 Update but we are also finishing a "stability" patch that includes many fixes for lots of annoying locks that we have seen in our global crash report. This patch should make a *HUGE* difference for Starhawk stability and includes a completely new system for network error reporting that automatically logs any player's network error with our game analytics database. This way we can correlate disconnects by region, by player and if needed, by discreet activity in the game.

The network team here at LightBox Interactive is also working very closely with the SONY Network team to isolate the issues that some players are reporting about our voice chat. After a few games the voice relay system is breaking-down and that's resulting in players being "dropped" from voice communication.

Beyond that on the horizon, we have more updates for game balance, protections against "base-ravaging" and the team is continuing to make great progress on the FREE Cypress Map Pack and we're really looking forward to sharing more info on it in the coming weeks!

The Design Team here at LightBox Interactive also had a playtest this week of a new prototype gameplay mode called "Flight-CTF" although to be honest... it had more in common with Quidditch!

Team-based air-combat, 1 "ball" in the middle of the sky and 2 goals one at either end of the map. You score points by getting the "ball" and flying through the goal. The prototype was early and rough but it was hellua-fun and we'll keep you posted on how it develops, and when it looks like we'll release it for all of you guys to get your hands on!

As quoted from the LightBox Interactive Developer Blog

Very, *VERY* early this morning at 4am Central time we performed world-wide server maintenance and deployed a new patch for Starhawk. The patch is focused on resolving the most common crashes as well as providing a new automatic system of recording any network errors that players encounter. There were however a few other things that were included in the patch so here's the full list:

  • Fixed for the prominent Crashes & Locks
  • Added automated network disconnect error-reporting
  • Fixed missing sound FX for when missiles are dodged
  • Fixed XP display for players already at the first-tier level cap of 50
  • Fixed Server-List so it can scroll properly and display the full-set of global games
  • Fixed texture paging bug that sometimes caused a blank Uplink
  • Fixed the Sweet-Tooth's awesome butcher's blade accessory
  • Fixed the bug causing only 4 players to be allowed into your Homeworld
  • Fixed bug that caused the Clan Leader board to scroll incorrectly
  • Fixed Server-List filter on full games to work properly

As we've mentioned before, the team here at LightBox Interactive is working on another game balance update and we'll be providing you the list of all of the changes next week! We're also hearing our community "Loud & Clear" on our voice issues. The team at LightBox Interactive has spent many days debugging what the issue is and we've relayed that information to our Network team at SONY. They are currently investigating a fix and we'll be sure to keep you all posted!

We are very thankful of our community's patience and we are fully committed to making sure the Starhawk experience continues to improve with Updates and Patches as well as grow with FREE downloadable maps!

In the story mode of Starhawk, you play as Emmett Graves. Emmet and his brother are Rift Miners, attempting to stake a claim on the Rifter-free planet of Sever. As the brothers are setting up their Rift Well, the Rift hole explodes, engulfing the two in Rift Energy. Emmett's brother turns completely into an Outcast before Sydney Cutter, a friend of Emmett and Logan, can save him; Emmett is saved by Sydney and undergoes surgery to have a unique device attached to his back, which allows him to stay at least partially human. At his stage, he is not human nor Outcast, so both Rifters and Outcasts do not want to have anything to do with him.

When Emmett was infected with Rift Energy, no one ever saw him the same. Rifters believed Emmett to be an Outcast waiting to transform, and Outcasts despised him because they still considered him a human. Because of this isolation, Emmett left White Sands, his hometown; he and his friend Cutter became Rift Salvagers, Rifters who hunt down Outcast warriors in order to save the Rift Miner colonies.

Emmett is just an ordinary man in a bad situation - he's subtle and intellectual. He feels bad for what has happened to the Rifters on Dust and his brother, Logan, but he doesn't want to be around them because of their negligence towards him. Emmett blames Outcasts for the entire situation he is in, so hunting down Outcasts with Cutter was a logical choice. As Emmett travels the universe, he begins to learn more about the Outcasts, Rift Energy, and how he ties into all this.

The greatest feature LightBox and players alike are excited about is 'Build & Battle'. This feature gives players the complete freedom to place turrets, walls, landing pads, garages, communication towers, and so much more where ever and whenever they desire. Through this creative aspect, no battle will be exactly the same as another - players can choose how THEY want to take on their enemies.

Rift Energy, the primary substance in Starhawk, is like a currency in the far reaches of the galaxy - there is no powerful government in these parts; Blue Gold must be acquired by completing objectives and killing enemies. Once enough has been accumulated, players can use Rift Energy to send architecual mammoths from the sky. From this feature, strategy becomes paramount in order to win a battle, overcome any enemies, or simply stay alive.

Currently, the known worlds that players will travel to are Space, Dust, White Sands, Echo, Sever, and Acid Sea.

#

  • No SIXAXIS or PlayStation Move support - the two motion-control periphreals for the PS3 will NOT be present in Starhawk.

  • No 3D Capabilities - Starhawk will NOT have 3d functionality.

  • Mechs - Transforming mechs, known as "Hawks," will be a prominent vehicle in Starhawk; these vehicles can also take flight and participate in aerial battles.

  • Space Battles - Players will be able to participate in space battles, while playing in the story mode.

  • 5-hour Story - The single-player campaign will be about five hours long.

Co-op is a newly-announced feature in Starhawk, which was revealed at South by Southwest (SXSW) 2012. Not every detail has been revealed about Co-op, but this is what I have gathered:

First off, Starhawk's co-op is officially called "Prospecter." Co-op in Starhawk is limited to only two people; LightBox thought about bringing back four-player Co-op, but in the end they determined that not enough people played four-player splitscreen and decided to limit splitscreen and co-op to two players only. Being positive, though, this means that co-op and splitscreen will give players a bigger aspect ratio and map, so you can see more, which really comes in handy in those tough challenges.

Players can play online co-op, with a random player via the Internet or with a partner. If the latter is chosen, then Player 2 can log into their PlayStation Network account and gain XP and have their stats recorded; when they go to their main PS3, they can use that XP to rank up, buy things, etc. The XP that players are awarded for killing A.I. is significantly less than if the player killed a human player because the A.I. is not as smart or skilled as SOME players. The option to play offline co-op is there, as well, but if this method is chosen, then no stats will be recorded for either player.

No information on what type of challenges, maps, game modes, etc. have been announced about Starhawk's co-op. When these details are officially announced, though, I will update the Starhawk Information Center with the gist of it.

#

  • Two-player Splitscreen and Co-op - Starhawk will allow players to play splitscreen or co-op with an additional player, either online or offline.

  • Dual-log-in PSN ID - If you have a friend, relative, or stranger (not recommended unless they have cookies), he/she can log into their PSN account and play to earn XP and stats for their profile on their home console.

With Starhawk being a "spiritual successor" to Warhawk, it is virtually required to contain a multiplayer portion. In Starhawk's multiplayer, players can play as either Outcasts or Rift Miners; these two factions have different paint schemes on the weapons and vehicles, but the weapons and vehicles operate exactly the same.

32 players is the maximum limit of people in a single server. And according to Dylan Jobe, matchmaking will be implemented for the Official servers in order to prevent base rapes. Also, player-created servers are making a comeback, with Sony hosting the player-created servers - anyone will be able to host 32 players, if they wish.

As with the single player, the ability to place command bunkers, turrets, depots, etc. is also present. This ability is a contributing factor to prevent "base rapes," which were prevelant in Warhawk. In addition, game modes that were present in Warhawk will also be present in Starhawk, such as 'Capture the Flag', 'Zones', 'Team Deathmatch', and 'Deathmatch'. Starhawk will also contain 10, count 'em--10--unique maps. HawkStarJay posted here that there will be more maps in Starhawk than there was in Warhawk; additionally, each map will have a large version and small version, for both large and small skirmishes, respectively.

Furthermore, the vehicles present in Warhawk will be present in Starhawk, including the Jeep (now called a "Razorback"), the Hawk, the Jetbike, Ox Heavy Tank, and the Jetpack (now called a "Vulture"). Concerning the Dropship and APC, LightBox has not officially revealed these vehicles yet, but that doesn't mean they won't ever announce them.

Players will be able to "build" many structures and have them accessible on the battlefield. The great thing is that these structures can be built all while navigating the level, and players do not have to wait, unless gathering enough rift for a structure - it is very fast paced. Structures available to build include Sniper Towers, Walls, Auto-turrets, Weapon Bunkers, ARMs, Forcefields similar to the ones in Warhawk, Hawk Pads, Razorback Depots, Pod Beacons, Jetpack Dispensers, Jetbike Depots, and Ox Heavy Tank Depots.

Dylan Jobe and the entire team at LightBox have been constantly asked, "Will there be space battles?" The answer is "yes!" In addition, players can also BUILD in space, so setting up a perimeter in space is indeed possible. Ground troops will also be able to fight in space! Hopping from small spaceport to small spacepot, ground pounders will be able to fight other ground troops. Currently, the known maps available in Starhawk's multiplayer are 'Scourge', 'Orbital', 'Apage', 'Sever', 'Echo, and 'Dust'.

This is currently all the information we have on the multiplayer mode of Starhawk. As more information becomes available, I will add it

#

  • 32 Players - One server in the Starhawk multiplayer can hold a maximum of 32 players.

  • 32 Allowed Structures - The Starhawk Online Beta only allowed 32 structures per team, and this may or may not rise in the full game.

  • Pod-dropping Spawn Points - Players will drop from the sky, in a pod, when they respawn in the Starhawk multiplayer.

  • Play as Rift Miners or Outcasts - Players will be able to play as Rifters or Outcasts in the multiplayer of Starhawk.

  • No Auto-aim Feature - The auto-aim feature from Warhawk will NOT be present in Starhawk, but a target-snapping feature has been implemented for players to quickly target players when they press the 'L1' button.

  • Ordered List for Ranks - Instead of earning a new title for reaching a new rank, players will rank up by levels (I.E. 1, 2, 3, 4, etc.). This may change, though.

  • Improved Leaderboard - Starhawk will have an intuitive leaderboard for players that will help track players much better than the standard leaderboards in video games. This leaderboard will focus prominently on score per minute and kills per minute.

  • Unlockable Skills - Certain skills must be unlocked via skill points, such as gathering rift outside of an outpost or the home base; faster Hawks; etc.

  • Skill Tree - A skill tree for players may be used in the Starhawk multiplayer. Essentially, this feature will allow players to design their character to their own preferences, by selecting different skills to improve.

  • Two-player Split-screen - Instead of four-player split-screen, there will only be two-player split-screen in Starhawk.

  • Multi-PSN ID - If using split-screen, 'Player 2' will be able to sign in to the PSN, using their own PSN ID; this will allow them to use their own customized characters, skills, and stats.

  • Party Chat - Players can choose to chat with only members in their party.

  • Clan Chat - Clanmates will be able to chat with one another across different servers.

  • In-game Calendar - An in-game calendar will be implemented into the multiplayer portion of Starhawk, which will help track clan matches, tournaments, etc.

  • Different Level Environemnts - Players will be able to play in different environments, including space battles.

  • Sony-used Bandwith - Players that desire to create their own servers will be able to make 32-player servers, courtesy of Sony's bandwith.

  • More in-depth Customization - Customization for characters has been greatly improved and increased.

  • Classic Arcade Flight and Pro-Flight - Both flight modes are still available, but Classic Arcade Flight has its "backwards-lock" glitch fixed and other major tweaks. Classic Arcade Flight is currently being tested in the Starhawk Beta, though. A more noob-friendly flight mode, called Normal Flight, is also available for players.

  • iOS and Android App - An app for iOS devices, including iPhones, iPads, and iPods, and Android devices will be released alongside Starhawk. With this app, gamers can set up clan tournaments, clan matches, view a clan calendar, manage clan members, and so much more.

  • Extensive Clan Features - There are literally so many clan features that I cannot remember them all!

On May 8, the day Starhawk released, Dylan Jobe posted on the PlayStation.Blog that all map packs for Starhawk will be free! Here is the quote from the PlayStation.Blog:

...this is the announcement that you guys probably were *NOT* expecting…there was a lot of discussion here at LightBox Interactive and Sony Santa Monica on how best to support the community and keep our player base all together as one cohesive group. We really didn’t like how in Warhawk when we released a new map pack, it forced these divisions on our players. And after we released three expansions, our player community was pretty fractured. With Starhawk that ends! We are incredibly excited to announce that all map packs for Starhawk will be free. Yeah, you read that right…FREE. Whenever we release a map pack you won’t have to pay a friggin’ dime! And we’ve already started the early stages of our next map pack for you guys. Check out these very early sketches from the new planet of Cypress! A lush, swampy world that’s home to an abandoned research facility that many years ago was responsible for researching the mysteries of Rift Energy.

Now certainly we’ll have some paid DLC content in the future as well as our free map packs, but we’re still playing around with what that will be. We’re going to be looking to see what the player feedback is on Starhawk in the coming weeks to help steer the DLC that we develop for you all. This is our commitment to all of you, the players. I hope you all get a chance to enjoy Starhawk – not only with today’s retail release but for the months and years to come!

Cypress is a lush, swampy planet where, long ago, research facilities were constructed to study the effects and mysteries of Rift Energy. Now abandoned, the world is open for Rifters and Outcasts to clash.

Not much is known about Cypress, but more details will be released soon.

#

Not much is known on these two factions as of now, but from what we have seen of Starhawk, this is what we can infer:

The Outcasts are a group of humans that have been infected by Rift Energy, also called "Blue Gold." This band of undesirables oppose the Rift Miners and are thought to be war-mongering rebels, with a devious nature. In addition, the Outcasts have an intense determination to protect the Rift Energy at all costs... even their lives. Mind you, Outcasts are not stupid - they are just capable as Rifters.

The infected Outcast species come into existance when a Rifter--the short name for a Rift Miner--is exposed to the Blue Gold. Once infected, changes begin to happen, both mentally and physically. The newly-infected begin to develop a feral nature, determined to protect Rift Energy. The Rifters don't understand how or why this happens, but players will learn throughout the story mode of Starhawk why the Outcasts act like they do.

The Rift Miners are uninfected humans that traveled from their home planet and have colonized distant planets, in hopes of making a living on mining Rift Energy. Rifters live a dangerous life, whether it be avoiding infection by Rift Energy or looking over their shoulder for Outcasts.

In the multiplayer portion of Starhawk, players will be allowed to play as Outcasts and Rift Miners. In addition, players can customize their online avatars greatly, ranging from boot color to forearm armor color, and much more.

NAME: Emmett Graves

FACTION: Rift Miner

BIOGRAPHY: Emmett Graves is an ex-Rifter, turned assassin/bounty hunter. During a Rift Energy excursion, Emmett's brother, Logan, and he were ambushed by a band of Outcasts. During the battle, Emmett and his brother were both exposed violently to Rift Energy, causing the Rifter-to-Outcast infection process to begin. However, Emmett was spared when he was given cybernetic implants, which halted the infection process. Now Emmett is stuck in the middle, as a Rifter and an Outcast - no one will accept him, but they need him. You play as Emmett Graves. You are a gunslinger.

NAME: Sydney Cutter

FACTION: Rift Miner

BIOGRAPHY: Sydney Cutter is a Australian-accented, surveying and IT-specialized Rifter that communicates with Emmett through an ear piece and camera. He is the "eye in the sky." Providing tips and the launches pods of buildings and troops from his ship in space. As players go through the story of Starhawk, they will become accustomed to hearing and seeing Sydney pop up on their screen.

NAME: Huxley Ardin

FACTION: Rift Miner

BIOGRAPHY:Huxley is the town's mechanic in White Sands. Not only can he fix anything, but he's a great shot, too; this is something the people of White Sands need if an Outcast warband ever shows up.

NAME: Tilley

FACTION: Rift Miner

BIOGRAPHY: Before Logan, Emmett's brother, was turned into an Outcast, Tilley was Logan's fiance. Along with Emmett, Tilley and Logan were excited to start their own claim and begin making a living. However, this all changed when the accident happened with Emmett and Logan.

NAME: Logan Graves

FACTION: Outcast

BIOGRAPHY: Logan is Emmett's brother. Thought to have died or never been seen again after the Rift explosion on Sever, Logan joined the Outcast warriors and soon became a leader of the Scabs.

This revolver is only available in multiplayer. The Galloway Revolver is very powerful and can kill an enemy in just a few shots. It is very similar to Emmett Grave's revolver, but it is not as powerful and does not have its own "gunslinger" mechanic.

The Kinectic Rifle is an assualt rifle, similar to some modern-day assualt rifles used in real life. This weapon is very powerful and very accurate and has no auto-aim feature.

The Railgun, also called the "Sniper Rifle," provided in Starhawk is capable of long-range combat, with impeccable accuracy and damage capabilities. It acts more like a rail gun, using powerful bursts of energy and a laser for accuracy.

The MAW, also called the "Rocket Launcher," is used in the same way as the one in Warhawk: lock on (or not) and shoot. With tracking capabilities, the Rocket Launcher is able to take Hawks down in a few shots, but rockets cannot be locked on to Mechs yet.

One of the most-requested weapons since Warhawk, the Shotgun made a stunning appearance in Starhawk. The Shotgun packs a lot of punch at short range and can take out a group of enemies in no time. This is one of those weapons that can make a player dominate on the battlefield if utilized correctly.

Dylan Jobe was asked if a flamethrower would be present in Starhawk. He responded by saying that there would be a weapon that plays, gameplay-wise, like a flamethrower but shoots out a different type of substance, which turns out to be sparks; therefore, technically, a flamethrower will not be in Starhawk, but a very similar weapon will be. This weapon is very powerful and also deals damage to wielder if used long enough. It has been recently revealed that the weapon will be called a "Grinder."

The Combat Blade is making a return in Starhawk. Previously, in Warhawk, the Combat Blade was reached by pressing the 'Down' arrow on the 'D-pad'; the Combat Blade has been changed to 'R3' in Starhawk and can be engaged multiple times, like in Warhawk.

Announced by LightBox, Proximity Mines will be present in Starhawk. The team has been playtesting the Proximity Mines and are unsure how many they will allow players to use in game, but the limit is currently three mines, one down from Warhawk's limit.

The Tetranite Grenade, like in Warhawk, can be used to quickly take out ground troops or vehicles. It is effective when enemies are behind cover or a player is outnumbered. Currently, only three Tetranite Grenades are allowed per player.

This simple tool is similar to Warhawk's 'Repair Wrench', but this weapon shoots out energy like Killzone 2 and Killzone 3's Healing Tool. The Repair Tool is also incredibly valuable when destroying enemy structures, such as Walls and Weapon Bunkers.

#

The MG is basically the same as it is in Warhawk: holding 'R1' releases a gatling gun-like onslaught of bullets at a target but will overheat after extensive use.

Laser Swarms are very similar to Warhawk's Swarm Missiles. With these missiles, players can lock on multiple projectiles to one or more targets. Currently, players can lock on 8 Laser Swarms at once and are able to carry 68 at a time. These missiles are very fast but take a few moments to begin following their desired target after being fired.

These Homing Missile is incredibly similar to Warhawk's Homing Missile: players are able to carry three of them and fire one at a time. In addition, these missiles pack quite a punch and are relatively slow in reaching their designated target.

In Warhawk, there was the Lightening Gun; in Starhawk, there is the Flak Gun. Both are similar in operation, but unlike the Lightening Gun, the Flak Gun does not have a charged version. The Flak Gun is fired like a shotgun, with a short range, incredible power, and multi-shelled bursts.

Cluster Bombs are a devastating air-to-ground weapon. Capable of eliminating several targets at once, it is used to destroy pockets of troops and structures to break through an enemy's defenses. The Cluster Bombs were not available in the beta, but we can infer that they will be pretty much the same as Warhawk's Cluster Bombs.

Maybe one of the biggest changes in A2A weaponry is the Air Mines: the Air Mines in Warhawk were bigger, less forgiving, harder to evade, and only able to shoot out one per shot. The Air Mines in Starhawk, however, are smaller, not as powerful, much easier to avoid, and launch four per shot.

The most powerful weapon in the game. A Torpedo, when launched, can destroy everything in its radius, inclduing troops, vehicles, and structures. When seeing the Torpedo explode, it emits a huge blue ball of energy that creates a distinct sound, which alerts anyone on the map that the Torpedo has been used.

#

The Hawk is tweaked, modified, and improved version of the Warhawk and Nemesis. This mech-to-aircraft machine is potent to the core and is capable of wreaking havoc through entire armies. The Hawk includes a full aresenal of weaponry and the ability to transform from a mech to an aircraft with a single press of a button. Able to perform a "Mech Stomp," which allows players to stomp on ground targets, the Mech is quite deadly on the ground.

The Razorback is spawned through the garage, which must be "purchased," using the Build & Battle system. Once acquired, players can navigate this vehicle with two other companions across levels. The Razorback has a mounted machine gun on its rear end, which gives the Razorback some defense and offense. Do not forget that the Razorback can squash enemies sprinting afoot by running them over.

The Jetbike is a agile, quick vehicle that can transport a player from Point A to Point B in a matter of seconds. The Jetbike is also perfect for jumping the dunes of Dust or performing sweet jumps off ramps or cliffs; sadly, though, it does not have shocks or pegs, so we are not lucky. The Jetbike is also less armored, which means it can be destroyed quicker.

Easily the strongest and most powerful ground vehicle in Starhawk. The Ox Heavy Tank is slow but is perfect for bunker busting and breaking apart defenses, using its catapult launcher or standard cannon.

I have no idea. There are only rumors that you and I have both heard - some say May 2010, while others say 2011. I can only guess at the moment.
