Re: Should I get Starhawk? A few questions. Help!

Idk about SUGA servers, but there are quite a few that attract some talent.

The MP stacks with the SP's trophies.
Blops2 has only hit this game on its first day. Yesterday was a pretty solid night for server participation.
Since LBI was let go from the sony family, santa monica has 'taken over.' The 'takeover' has not sat well with us as it's been about 3 weeks since they acquired the game, and have yet to publicise a proper plan for the future of this game.
Lead developer/president of Lightbox, Dylan Jobe is working with SMS right now to deliver his last patch to the game. So far he's been the most vocal regarding the change of developers, in which he's offered to pay for the updates himself if he must.

As for what $20 will get you today:
Honestly you are in for a treat. The MP game is altogether great fun, mayhem, destruction, and fun... did i say fun already? Alright! It's twice the fun. Honestly it's a little buggy, and there are some exploits that are plain difficult to ciunter, but all in all, there are ways around it, and fun will be ensured and had and blahblahblah...........

....articulacy escapes me today.

this is me helping

I just played the singleplayer demo and it blew me away. Now I want to get the game for multiplayer. Loving big infantry-vehicle battles anyway so I assume the mp is fun. I also played the Warhawk MP demo a few years ago and really enjoyed it. Not interest in Black Ops at the moment, although I will definitely buy it sooner or later.

Regarding Starhawk's multiplayer, I have a couple of simple questions:

- Most importantly, how's the player count doing?? Are there many players online or is everybody already playing BO2? Any problems to find full servers? I don't want to buy and devote myself to a new game just to realize the active player count is already dwindling. You know, when I'm getting a new multiplayer game, I want this game to have a future.

- Are the developers actively supporting the game with patches and hotfixes? Are they listening to the community?

- Are there any plans for addons in the future to keep the multiplayer experience fresh?

- Should I download the multiplayer-only part from psn or get the full package? How are trophies handled? Meaning, when I get the MP-only part, does the game install the singleplayer trophies nonetheless?

- Final question: Is the game any good? :smileyvery-happy:

Thanks in advance!

:smileyhappy:

- The player count isn't huge but it is steady.  There are always enough servers to find a game going though.   There are typically between 300 and 1200 people on @ any given time and between 20 and 60 different multiplayer servers up.   I never have trouble finding a game and if I can't find a server with modes/loadouts I like I just make my own server, luckily I will typically have 3 friends who will join and get the room started with me when I do this.

- The developers got laid off.   Sony Santa Monica Studios are basically overseeing things now but all that means is "keeping the servers refreshed" as far as I can tell.

- I don't think so considering LBI got laid off.

- If you are wanting the platinum get the full game, its a pretty easy platinum and I"m an avid trophy hunter so you can take my word on that.  The mulitplayer trophies are easy but take time (100 wins in 3 modes and 50 wins in co-op/prospector).  I don't know how the trophies work if you only buy one part, good question.

- YES!  I'm @ 400 hours or so on multiplayer and still enjoy playing about 5 days a week.

If you DO get the game check out Phillyblunz's thread about his clan for recruiting new people and helping you learn....or if you want my clan is more than willing to recruit people who have no experience and work with them but our clan is already large and Philly, an ex-clanmate, is really trying to get a good training clan going so I would reccomend him first.   http://community.us.playstation.com/t5/Starhawk-General/Who-is-newish-to-Starhawk/td-p/38735115/jump...  <--that is his thread.

Re: Should I get Starhawk? A few questions. Help!

Thanks for the helpful answers so far!!

Are the available servers often limited to special costumizations?

What I mean is, is it possible to play the multiplayer with all vehicles at any given time, or are there many servers which exclude specific features like air vehicles? I like to play with everything a game got, i.e. infantry, ground/air vehicles etc. all at once, in one match.

Most loadouts exclude at least one item, mostly the redundant vehicles IMO.

Like you can use jeeps but not jetbikes, or can use jetpacks but not jetbikes, etc.

I dont think any loadout has everything at once, but some come very close.

The game developers felt letting us fully customize our own servers would somehow be unbalanced.

For me as long as 2-3 things I enjoy are in the match I am set to go.

My favs being jetpacks, jetbikes, grizzly mechs, and Jeeps.  (so I am covered for most loadouts)

Your question is about the loadouts for each map.

There are several different loadouts and there isn't one loadout with every item possible in it.   You can make a server with a different loadout for each map.

For example a popular map is dust.   I can make that map with the "groundpounder and lightweight" loadouts and it wont have any hawks.  I can make it with the Heavyweight loadout and it will have hawks/tanks/grizzly suits but no sidewinder/razorback.  I could do it as speeder and have all the vehicles but the grizzly suit but no turrets.....there are a lot of variations.

Those forum servers leenail listed for you typically have a good mix of loadouts.

Re: Should I get Starhawk? A few questions. Help!

If you liked the Single Player I would definitely suggest getting the multiplayer. MP is the real saving grace of the game and is infinitely better than SP. Player count is decent, but not in the middle of the night and at weird times. The other thing to keep in mind is a very steep learning curve - be prepared for frustration in the early going.

Re: Should I get Starhawk? A few questions. Help!

The initial questions in this topics OP are kinda suspicious - like they're engineered to provoke a certain response.  But, so far, so good.
Like it has been said, for $20, there's not a better multiplayer experience out there.  Heck, I paid $60 and for all the DLC (except colors and costumes) and I don't regret it at all.  What's especially nice is the long learning curve - you'll never hit a plateau where you feel like you're as good as you can possible ever get.
