I'm Curious About the ESRB

Please note this isn't intended to start a flame war, or to troll. If you want to do be dumb, please take it to another forum. That being said...

Why is this game rated T for Teen while Halo 4 will be rated M? Both have the same descriptors, and the same "style" of gameplay. The most violent content (in both games, ironically) involves assassinations with knives, and minimal blood. So why should the ESRB decide that Starhawk is somewhat more appropriate for teens as opposed to Halo? Is it because of the difference between first- and third-person perspectives?

NOTE: The two most recent Halos, Reach and the upcoming 4 have nothing to do with the Flood, so no gore or dimemberment there.

Re: I'm Curious About the ESRB

People would probably claim that Halo was RUINED FOREVER if it suddenly changed to a T rating.

Re: I'm Curious About the ESRB

The ESRB is rating the single-player ONLY. Multiplayer is never rated by them, even though if it were all MP games with mics or a chat feature would be rated M or worse...

Something in the SP in Halo is getting the M. Whether its more gore (yes, you can have bad gore without the Flood. It can be just the blood effects or if people are seen laying in pools of their own blood, or seeing someone dragged off by something), strong language, themes (although, its Halo, so I doubt that the themes are it), drug usage/abuse, violence, sexual innuendos, romances or worse...and the list goes on.

I have a feeling its the violence/gore and language that bump Halo up to M. I don't remember there really being any bad language (or, nothing that bad) in Starhawk, and the gore isn't bad.

And lastly, I wouldn't trust the ESRB that much. As I said, they do NOTHING for the MP portion, and that's where the real adult content usually is (and the real game, for most shooters). You really should play the game first if you are unsure. But...generally, yes, a T-rated SP game is better for teens then an M-rated SP game. Generally. Don't forget, you may play through a game and have no clue why a game is rated M (you'd give it a T) but another could play it and want it to be rated AO. Everyone is different.
Think of it like a PG-13 movie vs an R-rated movie. Same concept.
