I actually think that given some experience, Patterson will be a Kenny Lofton type of player.

I don't think I could disagree more with that. Patterson will not amount to anything, and I've been following him for a quite some time now.

Wait, Grifter, what do you mean Murton has only hit .300 once?

Ever since he hat high A he has been a .300 hitter

2004 - High A ((split time between Sarasota and Daytona)) - .294

2005 - 313 AB AA - .342

2005 - 174 AB AAA-MLB = .335

2006 - 455 AB MLB = .297

2007 - 151 AB AAA = .331

2007 - 235 AB MLB = .281 ((these combine to .302 or .3019))

2008 - 191 AB AAA = .298 ((this is after a bad 20 AB.  He was batting .315 a few games ago))

His total minor league numbers are

.312 - .388 - .458

while his major league numbers

.295 - .363 - .451

So I feel that, given consistent playing time, that he could easily be a .300 hitter year in an enviroment I feel he'll enjoy in Oakland.

You've been following him for the 4 years he's been playing? You know we're talking about Eric and not Corey....right?

When he was sent to single A Peoria, he was tearing it up with a .333 batting average and 71 RBI's and 40 stolen bases. He also played 9 games in AA that same season and hit .200. Not too shabby for his first year.

His second season, he started in AA and batted .263. He also had 47 RBI's and 37 stolen bases in 121 games. He was sent up to AAA and played in 17 games that same season. 2 home runs, 11 RBI's and 8 stolen bases.

His third season (2007), he started in AAA. Played in 128 games and batted .297 with 65 RBI's and 24 stolen bases. He was called up to the majors and batted .250 in 8 at bats off the bench in 7 games.

This year (2008) he was hot again in AAA. Batting .333 with 26 RBI's and 10 stolen bases in 46 games. He struggled when called up to the majors this season at the start, but was starting to adjust and warm up to major league pitching. He was batting .237 with 7 RBI's in only 13 games.

He's only 25. If this kid gets consistent playing time, like Murton, with the A's - he could be a diamond in the rough. A lot of scouts have said that of the 2 brothers, Eric was the one that had the most talent at the major league level. I can see him getting called up for the A's this season, and possibly vying for a position in their outfield or middle infield next Spring.

I was speaking strictly at the major league level, which I had stated, he had only played in 51 games that year.

*EDIT* - But I do agree, that given the playing time, he could be a consistent high 200's to low 300's batter.

Patterson has more potential offensively than his brother Corey, Eric is faster and should hit for contact better than Corey. The only advantage Corey has is power. Having said that i still see Patterson as a career bench player, or a starter on a thin bad team. His fielding is attrocious and it is something he will need to work on greatly before he even begins to try and become an everyday player

The A's have lots of inexperienced players. They are just going to send some of them down to Sacramento. The only good pitcher they have is Justin and the rest are rookies.

I feel he is a servicable 2B.  His reaction time needs some work, but he is a very fast defender and makes up for it with speed.  I read a scouting report comparing him to Rickie Weeks and I feel that is a good comp.  I still feel the As are going to use him in center or left where he is a little worse, but if they find a way to get him in the middel infield I feel he can be servicable.
