Hey guys, hope the CS-GO buyers can give their opinions on this. Whats so special about this game? Why would you recommend it to people? Is this going to be popular like COD or something?
I looked at that game info thread, saw about 4 modes listed and the arsenal mode shown on video. It looks alright, but am I missing something here? What makes this game stand out from everything else coming out?
Just want honest opinions. Also I know that buy it on PC will have more perks such as mods, I'm surprised I havent heard of mod support for the ps3 version with UT3 has mod support O_o unless I missed reading that part somewhere..

Let me break down some facts between a known amature FPS like CoD against a real FPS like CS.
CoD is about who can get the first accurate shot off since you die in 2-3 shots, CS on the other hand is an FPS where true gun skill comes into play. Counter strike is all about the accuracy, headshots, and controlling the recoil. Another thing a lot of CoD fanboys cry about is CS not being realistic enough? Let me remind you this is a 'Video Game', not a Simulation. Dying to quickly in FPS's ruins the gun skill on a first person shooter. Also features such as the "Gun Game" That call of duty STOLE, yes stole from Counter strike originally.
tl;dr version
CoD is for 12 year olds with bad aim, CS is for the complete FPS experience.

Above is why people hate CS Elitists.
*Sighs* I know what you mean. Look, CS and CoD are two completely different games. CoD does things one way while CS does it another. People do enjoy both.
To the OP, if you like flat out shooters with no killstreaks, perks, and just flat out gunplay, then CS is for you. It's a shooter in its purest form with no iron sights. It's round based, meaning once you die you're dead until the end of the round unless you're playing the Arms Race match type. The main focus of Counter-Strike is online play, but bots can be used for training. Outside of offline play with bots the only other offline item is weapons training.

CS is a competitive player's FPS.
It can be a bit simplistic compared to other FPS out there.
All weapons are available to everyone (they just cost $, which is earned by completing objectives and frags).
No vehicles or perks.
Graphics are not as flashy as other games.
No extras stuff to "make you better" unlock as you play.
The only way to increase your ability is to gain more skill by playing, to get quicker at aiming for the head and learning maps and what to expect.
Think of it as Street Fighter compared to Tekken.
Street Fighter always looks less flashy but will always be the measuring stick for fighting game skill.
CS is still played at gaming tournaments around the world, as it is the premier teambased FPS.
Not to say Tekken or CoD players are less skilled, it's just the games like CS and SF are stripped of the button mashing / spray and pray to get the win, or sucking you in with the false sense that unlocking a certain weapon will make you more "skilled" (RPG elements), more effective maybe, but not more skilled.
CS's gameplay is a bit slowed, to where it can become sort of a chess match.
You die, you're dead for the round.
While dead, all you can do is twiddle your thumbs or observe the living (watch good players and try to learn from them).
I love CS, been playing since 98, but it's not a game for everyone.
For CoD BF3 players it can be a step back, but if you enjoy simple skilled based games and teamwork, give it try and you might get sucked in too ![]()

Oh, is that so?
So the original Socom was amateur hour, hmmm? Because the average number of rounds to down someone was 3, with 1 being the headshot and 6 being the most I have ever seen anyone take (legitimately). When Socom 2 came out, it was a mix of sloppy programming and noobs getting what they wanted when it took more shots to kill someone. I say noobs...perhaps I should have said unskilled...you see, having a good gun game means using the least amount of ammo in the most accurate way. The elite on Socom could efficiently drop you in a few rounds and keep going because they learned how to use the guns. Newer players had a harder time hanging with them and became frustated that they died relatively quick.
I don't want to shoot nerf darts out of my gun when I play a shooter. I want lethality, after all, that's why I play shooters. And I want realism...realistically, you get shot 3 times, and the odds are against you surviving. Barring headshots, very few wounds are instantly fatal, but they are fatal nonetheless. You aren't going to being running/jumping/diving around...you are going to be trying to keep from bleeding out. Games that use a model like the original Socom promote quick draw skills, as well as accuracy. Games that allow you to take craploads of damage and such, that is for those who need something to balance out the scales.
At any rate, I've seen some videos and read some reviews of CS:GO and I have to say, I'm not impressed. Remind me a lot of a certain other FPS series. I'll pass.
