Re: The Last Guardian - Theories, thoughts and discussion

Jan 8, 2010

Here is an interesting site:  http://teamicogamers.blogspot.com/2009/06/shadow-of-colossus-ending-notes.html

Now that potential alternate ending would have been very, very interesting.  But even though it was scrapped by the team, it does tell us something.  It says that Mono would have been glowing because she was revived.  This explains why Yorda from ICO is glowing.  And this new kid seems on the glowing side as well.  Perhaps this young boy was also revived at some point.  Interesting.

I watched the beginning scene of ICO again (the one that autmatically plays before the start screen), and I never realized that 2 of the guards escorting Ico to the castle also had horns.  If they have horns, why weren't they banished?

Here is the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThfWezaxPV0

I am almost positive that those are just helmets.

But...one boy is sacrificed every ten years to the Queen (I could be completely wrong on that, but I am pretty sure thats the time frame). So maybe its possible that some boys are sparred the banishing?

What if the Queen and Dormin are two competing powers? What if they both exist together and are constantly fighting over the inhabitants of the world, land, area, etc. And the people, or a third power, made guardians to protect them from the Queen and Dormin. And maybe this griffin thing is the "last" guardian left. Just someething that came to me out of nowhere.

Just can't wait for this game to come out.  I am already dreaming of finding the Forbidden Lands or Queens Castle in The Last Guardian, lol.

In the two trailers so far, the kid seems to be going to a lot of temple areas.  Would be epic if they had us go to the Shrine of Worship.

I like the idea.  Would be very "LOST" like, with two entities fighting for control.

The tattoos on the boy could just be a part of his character design without much behind it. Originally Ueda had Yorda as the one with the horns. So it just might be something to make the character look interesting. I doubt the game takes place in the Forbidden Land, but more likely somewhere in the mainland. The Queen's castle was on something of an island right, relatively close to the Forbidden Land as Ico can make it there in a small boat, so I doubt TLG takes place near the Castle either. As for the griffin, maybe Avion had a baby with one of the other lonely colossi lol jk. In both games there are these amazing structures created by mysterious civilizations that seem to have vanished leaving only dilapidated ruins. There's also mysterious evil entities. Like children are sacrificed to the Queen, but if they ignored her, what would she do? Send shadow warriors to abduct people even though they can be defeated by sticks? Why was a sword like Wander's ever created in the 1st place? So many questions! Dx

Sorry I just remembered something. If Wander's sword was used by Lord Emon in the way it was, why didn't they do that a long time ago? Why use the honor system of "No one take the magic sword to the secret temple to have the most miraculous of wishes, resurrection, granted. Please and thank you." when you could prevent passage entirely? The sword, to me, isn't just a colossi weakness as you can wound the colossi with other weapons, but it's significance is that it lights up the otherwise invisible vitals of the colossi as well as opening that otherwise locked door near the end with it's light. So maybe it was something that could be used against more than the Dormin. So much so that, if SotC is before ICO, they went through the trouble of crafting a new sword that is later used by Ico. So maybe there's a different evil to fight in The Last Guardian? I'm sorry if I inadvertently gave allusions to the events of ICO or SotC if you read my posts and haven't yet had the chance to play them. :[

- We don't know when the sword was created.  It could have been created well after Dormin was trapped.  There wouldn't have been much use to throwing the sword in the pool and trying to destroy Dormin if he didn't have a physical presence.  Only until Wander killed the 16 colossi did Dormin have a physical presense, and thus was able to be destroyed.  It seemed Emon knew exactly what to do if Dormin was ever resurrected.  That suggests that what Emon did could only have been done if Dormin became one again.

- All we know is that Dormin was trapped into 16 different parts at some point.  I guess the people or person who did this felt the Colossi were unbeatable.  They either didn't know the sword existed, knew about it but didn't know it was capable of killing the colossi, or it simply hadn't been created yet.

Re: The Last Guardian - Theories, thoughts and discussion

I know the title of The Last Guardian is there on a marketing decision so that the new game doesn't suffer the sales that Ico did, but it still must be pertinent to the story. Earlier I found an old novel titled "The Last Guardian" about some stones of power. I haven't read it because it's part of a series, but I wonder if there's any references or connections. The book also deals with the story of Atlantis. (Shrugs) Don't know if anyone has read it.
