I wish. You know how much Sony would make you pay for the rights to SOCOM? Try a few hundred million.
Are you actually typing this with a straight face?
He doesn't even want the full rights, he wants S2 ones.
Doesn't matter, if he wants to bare the "SOCOM" name on anything, he has to pay A LOT to get the rights, you think Sony is just going to hand out rights to anybody?

Also, for anyone that is interested, I require the assistance of someone organized with the ability to record high quality videos of SOCOM. They must have SOCOM II, but it would be great if they had SOCOM: Confrontation and/or SOCOM 4 as well. The job will require a lot of tedious recordings of player animations and user interfaces, but it would be extremely helpful to our cause. Please contact me via the private messaging system if you have the time and are willing to help.
Again, please inform anyone you may know that is experienced in the development of textures or player/weapon modeling and animations about this project. They would be a great addition to our team, and help strengthen areas where our experience may lack.
Even though I wanted to wait, I couldn't help but work a little bit on my MOD today. All this enthusiasm has me thinking about specific aspects of the game, and I may have to setup a website sooner rather than later, in order to poll the community about various choices I need to make. As I go about programming various aspects of the game, many questions arise, and it would be great to have them answered now so that I do not have to go back and change them later. The website would also provide me the opportunity to release frequent updates on the current progress of the game, which is something development studios never really do. I understand why though, because many people are quick to judge, and still do not understand the concept of a work in progress. I could release a video to collect comments about the HUD design, and people might be quick to complain about the player skins or some other aspect of the game that we haven't even begun working on, and just quickly threw together in order to begin testing.
Anyway, glad to see everyone is excited and provides their support. I am in the process of finding a lawyer in order to get some answers about copyrights. However, if anyone out there has any experience with this kind of stuff, they could be a great help to us as well. Also, there is nothing stopping any of you supporters from contacting Sony/Zipper yourselves, or even a friend who is a lawyer, in order to collect information about video game copyrights, and what exactly is needed for us to release this project.

i think it would be easier to get legal rights from the united state army or military branches!
i don't think a socom name would make much difference to be honest. it might take time for the community to pass on the name!! it would also tell great story!!
wish you good luck!! have my support 100%

This idea, and your 3D version of Desert Glory truly brought a tear to my eye.
Do what it takes to make this a reality, take the thousands of people that voted yes on S2HD plus the ones that don't even know about it (trust me all the people I played with back in the day have no idea but would love to play S2HD) and muliply it by $60 ... thats alot of money to be made.
