Hello Socom Community,
Gauge here, I am coming to you all with an updating thread about the Socom: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation Server downtime.
I recently got off the telephone with SONY's Playstation Network Support group. I spoke with a gentalmen named Dennis, who is one of the working Network Techs at SONY. Here is the summary of what he told me about the issue:
- SONY has no control over online play once the game has loaded and the player chose the multiplayer option.
- The reason behind the server being down could be typical server maintence or the server having technical difficulties.
- Many companies close servers when they no longer run the company or go bankrupt.
- On the last note, companies are not required by SONY to release information on server shutdowns.
- If SONY didn't make the game, they can't shut the game's online feature down.
- SONY only has onlince control over games they've made and products they personally own (ex. Playstation Home)
- Best way to find more information on ANY game's online features is to visit the company's website/fourms.
Now, with all this being said, SONY has NO control over whether or not the SOCOM servers will be shutdown. SONY only has control over their own products and can only help with connecting to games via the Network. Any game that is chosen to play multiplayer, SONY no longer has control over the online state from there unless they are doing maintence on their end (Trohpies, Friends, etc.) But the game's servers are all on the producer's end. So if Slant Six's servers are down, SONY can't do anything about it. Sorry if this confused people.
I tried to contact Slant Six a few minutes ago, but was directed to a voicemail. I left a pretty long one but was extremely nice and asked for a call back (since they do it said by the voicemail) on some information reguarding the servers. So until then, this is all I have for you.
Side Note- Slant Six IS NOT BANKRUPT. So with this deing said, it is doubtful that the company force closed the servers. Another note, the still see highly of this game, even though they don't keep up on the game :l ... But, if you don't believe me, check this out for yourself...

Hey Gauge. I have spoken to slant six and live 30 mins away from them.
They told me and the whole socom community via Facebook that they have zero control of the game anymore.
It is soley owned by sony.
If you do talk to them on the phone they will tell you to call sony.
I don't know wich number you called but the most common number for sony only deals with hardware and your personal account issues.Nice try though.

Slant Six GamesHi Christopher. Those rumors are not true. We are not currently working on a new SOCOM. Sony owns the rights and the IP to the SOCOM franchise, and decisions are fully at their discretion. Hope that helps.
I'm fully aware of /6 situation, I was speaking about the Sony "phone guys", they say anything to get you off the phone.

That's shocking because I spoke to the front desk lady at the headquarters over the phone today as she called me back. She told me that they no longer own the name of SOCOM but the servers the games run on are still at their HQ. So all server maintence and shutdowns would be controlled by them. But she did add that if I am afraid of a server shutdown, she doesn't think that will happen anytime soon. I then asked if they knew of all the cheating going on. She said she has personally heard rumors but Slant Six is completely done with Confrontation and said it's out of their hands. Then I asked about the outage. She said it has been happening a lot with a few of their game servers. Shes revieved many calls about it. And it happenes here and there where the scheduled maintence will fall off track for a day or so and shut the whole server down. The server eventually reboot themselves after the mantence was done.
I also asked why SONY doesn't control the servers anymore, she said they simply only gave us "support" to boost our game for the PS3.
It's logical though.... SONY knows this game is out of wack, The cheating can;t simply be blocked because they dont know the contruction of the game. So sadly, if the game shutsdown, it's by slant six... and SONY only has control over the name

What's even more shocking is that some fools are going to believe this garbage.
