Delete the game data and reinstall the game.

Deleted, restarted, initiated download and only achieved 98% (412.30 out of 419.68). System froze. Left PS3 alone in case it was processing. Waited 2 hours. Nothing.
Re-deleted, followed same steps. Same freeze point.
Re-deleted, followed same steps. Same freee point.
Ditto for the 4th attempt. Any other ideas?

When I deleted the game data there were four updates
The other thing I noticed during the first time I attempted to update this game, if I quit back to the XMB the update would hang. You have to stay on the update screen and allow it to finish. If you're quitting back to the XMB at anytime, then I think that is what corrupts the download.
Give it another try. Completely delete the Game Data, and let the game install. Then allow the game to update completely. Don't go to the "Quit Game" screen for any reason. Kick back, watch a movie or something (yes, people still watch movies on a television these days), and just let the game update.

Hi Captain
I am having the same issue, just got the game yesterday and have tried to d/l or patch the game like 5 times now. Overnight I let the PS sit and rest and tried again today. Had deleted all the game files as suggested above. Our other PS3 updated no problem, Even tried updating with the other game disk. Bottom Line: it finally did update, after about an hour...thanks so much for your answers to this thread. so to those people who might have the same issue....keep trying!
Finally get to play

Everyone CaptianAlbator is right. If you delet the game data and reinstall it the patches will download. The trick is to just let the downloads run without interruption. Using a WIFI connection I finally managed to get the patches download after following the Captian's instructions and letting the downloads run for roughly five and a half (5.5) hours straight. Note that since the downloads takes five plus hours to download the system may produce a large amount of heat, best way to beat the heat is to make sure your intercooler is working and download in a cool room.

and if your using an intercooler make sure it isnt burning a hole in your system
.... Though that was some years ago lol. Slim models seem to stay cool enough ,
