As we mentioned at the end of last year, some changes are coming to Zipline beginning with this week's episode. The most significant change is that we're moving away from the strict Q&A formula and moving more towards a topic-driven roundtable discussion.
This week's topic will be: Existing franchises vs. new franchises. Our special guest will be Zipper President Brian Soderberg.
What we're looking for from you guys is your thoughts on the topic. In this case, do you think it's great that we keep working on SOCOM titles? Were you glad to see us work on something new like MAG? What do you think about the industry's reliance on sequels year after year?
You're free to ask questions, but try to keep them related to the topic.

What was the motivation to push the present franchise, SOCOM, in the direction that it is now heading.
ie: The institution of the sprint function by /6 which you've opted to keep, where as their is a large community request for this feature to be removed

Nice. This is the kind of format I hope you guys were moving too. Bitmob does something similar, should be even more interesting coming from an actual developer.
I don't think there is anything wrong with working on sequels, and I'm obviously glad your team is working on SOCOM 4. But at the same time its important to not just turn out sequels to the same franchise year after year as not only does it accelerate the process by which the franchise turns stale but I think it also wears on the developers.
I was glad to see Zipper put out MAG as it sort of gave you an outlet to try new things creatively that would have not fit with the SOCOM franchise. But even more so I think it would be interesting to see Zipper try something outside of the shooter genre, even if its just an experimental PSN game.

1 Since Socom 4 is being developed with very different features and additions would there be a throw back edition where it would be like a Socom 2 HD release or a new Socom game with all the new features cut out?
2 What's popular now is a PS2 games collection in Blu-Ray like Sly collection and God of War collection. Will Socom franchise get the same treatment?

I was extremely excited when S4 was officially announced to be in production by Zipper. Please continue to make socom titles or at least titles in the spirit of socom.
I was also very excited when Mag was initially announced, but as more info came to light, I realized that it was definitely not the game for me. I played in the Mag beta to confirm and was not impressed.
I know that creative minds need to take a gamble sometimes and try something completely new, but I would rather see you guys focused on what you are very very good at. Socom.

With Zipper being synonymous with a great tactical team based shooter in the third person and the success of Socom thus far as an online multi-player game, will Zipper continue to go in this direction with games or is it possible that we may see a new type of game from Zipper in the future?
