Dear Mr. Ed Byrne,
In Zipline #5 I liked your response to the question of what defines the SOCOM experience. I think for many people, the success/failure of SOCOM4 will be defined by the multiplayer experience, and for a lot of listeners to the Zipline it will be how true to the SOCOM experience the multiplayer ends up.
1. what do you view as the game features or design elements that are critical for Zipper to nail on day #1 in order preserve the core of the "SOCOM experience" to satisfy the multiplayer fans (for example, asymmetrical map design and balancing, innovative yet-true-to-classic game objectives, round-based/non-respawn gametypes).
2. what are some of the top features/elements from other successful franchises (e.g. HALO, Call of Duty, Killzone) that you feel are critical for Zipper to borrow/incorporate into SOCOM4 in order to make the multiplayer more approachable / reach a broader audience. (for example, perks/skills/weapon unlocks, matchmaking/easy-to-find-a-game, clan/tournament systems, web site game/tools integration).
And a bonus question,
3. In your developer profile posted before Zipline #5, you mention one of your proudest moment related to the publishing of your book and walking into Borders. Would you be more or less proud to learn that new copies retail for $425 on amazon.com today? (http://www.amazon.com/Game-Level-Design-Developmen
(I wanted to buy a copy, but MasterCard said "no").
Since this isn't socom anymore,, is it possible for you or zipper to find another company to create a game that keeps its roots in tact and give us the socom title deserving for the ps3 console? I ask because its clear nothing is left for the vets or older fans in socom 4.. The game looks terrible still bulky characters, run speeds slow. Combined with missing classic features this game will suck.. Probably end up with numbers like confrontation has online.. Sorry for the rant but its painfully obvious you have no clue how to make a game advance and still keep its distinctiveness. Like what you could see in older socoms..
Im amazed though you had a large online community once and never tried to advance that or keep what made that title popular to attract new numbers.. Now who is the idiots here???????
Not sure if it's already been asked,
Whats the target framerate for Socom 4?
30FPS I believe is what they said, it has been answered.
Then I'm slightly bummed. For shooters, 60 fps is the way to go.
