What the S4 Crosshair Should Be Like (DS3)

disclaimer: this post does not say anything about how the accuracy of the guns themselves should be.

The Confrontation crosshair is the ideal crosshair so far.

The center inner dot represents where the bullet would go if the accuracy was 100% perfect, giving you a precise point to aim at.  Helpful on first shot (first shot of each burst is most accurate) and for acquiring a target to scope in on.

The size of the outer circle represents the general accuracy of the gun you are using.  Its size varies with the specific gun you are using. It does not move within the crosshair.

The four spikes on the outside represent your accuracy on the circumstances. They move away from the circle with each shot fired.

  • Firing on full auto will make the expansion bigger, as you are less accurate shooting auto.
  • The spikes will also move away from the circle when you are moving. How fast you are moving and your stance will determine this distance.

Those two (bulleted points) add together.  For example, you are least accurate when running as fast as you can on full auto.

Added in the Confrontation crosshair (in a better way than before) is RECOIL. When firing in bursts or automatic, with each shot, your crosshair moves up a TINY bit.  You can correct this by lightly holding down on the the analog stick while firing.  This is a realistic way to have recoil in the game because you can correct it yourself to an extent, just like in real life.

X-hair while still:   (i know, its CA)

X-hair while firing on auto:   (a little exaggerated though)

(A sidenote) The Little "Random" Dot:

One detail that a lot of people don't understand the purpose of is the little dot that sometimes appears around your crosshairs. In Socom 2 it was red, in the games after that it is yellow.

While annoying, it is actually very helpful if you know what it is.  That dot is the actual point where your bullet will hit.  It appears in situations when the crosshair on your screen is indicating a different location than the barrel of your gun is.

This difference exists because of the fact that the crosshair is higher up on the screen than the muzzle of your gun.  It's just the nature of third person view and it has to be dealt with one way or another. For SOCOM, they just chose to make a separate indicator to warn you, instead of "autocorrecting" the bullet path for you.  It has it's pros and cons.

So, the Confrontation crosshair is the best crosshair to date because it illustrates a complete comprehensive representation of where your bullets will go /are going.  The S4 crosshair doesn't have to be the exact same size and stuff, but it should be similar and maintain all of the helpful details of the most recent SOCOM crosshairs.

Go ahead and comment with more suggestions or ideas on how to improve the socom crosshairs, or how you think it should be.

Re: What the S4 Crosshair Should Be Like (DS3)

Im really interested in the way these new dynamic cross hairs are going to be. I think they could be a really great improvement potentially. The way that they change depending on your movement, the type of gun you are using and the way that you shoot it. The whole concept seems very promising. Accuracy will depend on a whole lot more than just where you point them... Im looking forward to this new feature (Go figure, right?) lol

So actually if you equip a rifle laser that is actually a better representation of where your shot will go than your crosshair. I've seen Youtube videos of people shooting at the ground in Confrontation and the bullet landed in a different spot than where their crosshair was pointed.

I enjoy having my bullets hit a ledge or a railing when my gun is physically over the ledge.

But I think whatever they use will be fine. And as long as a laser doesn't make your gun tip and magical wand that can be seen through walls.

That's right, because the laser follows the bullet path from the gun to the target, rather than from the center of the screen to the target.  So it isn't affected by the height difference.

Didn't you hear? All ledges and windows in Confrontation have an invisible force  field above them so that is what you actually have to shoot over :smileyvery-happy:

That problem also happens because of the nature of third person view.  It is extremely annoying and the only way I can think of to fix it while maintaining the current system is having the character physically raise his gun up with his arms to clear the railing.  A lot like how the character puts his gun down when it's too close to a wall (unfortunately it also does this for railings).

And why am I just hearing about this now!? :smileysad: I wasn't in the confrontation forums and couldn't find a solution on tipstricks.com let alone gameshark wouldn't let me shoot past it, please excuse my unpleasant noobiness.

So do you think we could hijack the maps for Socom con and lower the schematic structure with the aid of a 3D rendering program for my Dell computer desktop and then upload them to the server and have everyone download a couple gigs of maps to fix this? hahaha ok ok sorry. Ya, silly noobs making pwning games.
