This is 100% UNACCEPTABLE, ZipperInteractive. I will NEVER buy another game from you again. NO ONE, at any point, ever should have to put this much work in just being able to get the game to f*cking start. This is the WORST issue I've ever had with ANY game. Even Socom Confrontation, it was broken for a long time, but at least I could play it. I can't even get to point where I can play ONE single multiplayer match.
Uh yeah, nobody will every buy another game from them, they are out of business, closed, shut down, removed from the premises, no longer working, in the unemployment line, without a job, on permanent vacation.

Finally got it working, the process was different than the op solution. Just in case people have the same problem as I did, I'll write a step by step. Make sure you have all your game data deleted before you do this.
1. Pop the disc in and start up the game, and as the op said, press circle and skip the upate so you just install the game, and every "sign in to psn" prompt you get, IGNORE THEM and press circle on them. Once you get to the main menu of the game, DO NOT go to online and sign in and update, INSTEAD, press the Playstation button and quit out of the game.
2. The game data is installed now, so the next step is to start up the game again and let the game update to 1.05 using that 45mb update, BUT once that 45mb update is finished and ONLY the 45mb update, press the playstation button and quit out of the game yet again. So as soon as you're done with that 45mb update, immediately quit out of the game.
3. Finally, start up the game again and let the patching process (the patches that come through the "contacting the server" thing)do it's work, and you should be good and done with this pain in the **bleep** installation/update process and be able to play the game.
For me, the game data installation, the update (the 45mb one), and the patching process (the one that shows the character on the screen while you wait) all had to be done separately for it to work.

You are awsome dude, was just about to use new Socom 4 PS3 disk as target practice, you need to work for PSN as support because they are useless. ![]()
