SOCOM 4: US Navy SEALs

Let me start by saying I've never played a Socom and never played a 3rd person shooter online, so I know I'm already behind the 8 ball. I'm looking to try something new and this game does interest me. I've seen the reviews for this game and they are mixed, but I've played games before with mixed reviews and loved them.

Please provide your honest opinion about Socom 4. Please list your legitimate pros and cons about the game and if you are actively still playing it. I really don't want someone just to say it sucks or it's broken. Please explain why you feel this way so I can make a decision based on the most accurate info from people who have spent some time playing the game.

Also can I get an idea of how many people still play online? Is it easy to get into a game?

I need something outside of BC2 and MAG to pass time until BF3 comes out. Thanks in advance.

If you haven't played the older Socoms like most of us then you won't be heartbroken by this game. No one can truly review it for you and this is the LAST place you should look for an honest review. In my opinion since you have nothing riding on this franchise you might like it and should rent it.

Pros: Bomb Squad, Graphics

Cons: Defective Party System/Disconnections from game, Weapon Mod System, Random Bullet Spray, No unique game modes minus Bomb Squad, Shitty Mic System(Classic), Symmetrical Maps, No "SOCOM" Feel

This is mainly my opinion but I'm sure a lot of people agree with it.

I'll give an honest review.

TLR - The game is fun, the game is plagued with problems, the game modes are bad, the game is dying, the game doesn't take much skill, there are only a couple decent maps, most guns feel the same and playing with friends is troublesome.

S4 in my opinion is a fun game. Its fun to get kills and when you work as a team its great that being sad its also RIDDLED with problems such as

Terrible maps, way too much clutter everywhere.

Terrible game modes besides Bomb Squad which WILL get old.

The game takes some form of skill but most the people playing are moronic so anyone can do good consistently.

Most guns feel exactly the same, period.

The game hardly has anyone playing it, and for good reason.

As of now the party system is pretty bad.

With all that being said I still manage to have fun with it but I don't recommend buying it unless for maybe $30 because the COOP and MP can be fun but there are plenty of other games out there you can enjoy as well.

I believe if you have never played socom then you will enjoy it.  But any socom fan will tell you that the game is lacking.  As a socom fan, I find it fun at times, but there are dozens of things that arise during gameplay that have me cursing Zipper, and wondering what their reasoning for that design choice was.

SOCOM 4 - The Good

1. I really like the third person view. Unlike other third person games i've played, there's not many bugs if any. It doesn't feel glitchy and because of that, it adds a unique feel.
   
2. I like the size of the maps and nature of the field, i feel it's designed to be a harsh urban enviroment and i think Zipper captured that feeling nicely.
   
3. Having the choice of standard and classic modes is a nice touch too, some games i've played it's either one or the other.
   
4. I like the party system too, we can filter who we see in our lists, we can see the group both by pressing triangle and just been in the lobby.
   

SOCOM 4 - The Bad

1. The game feels like it shouldn't have been released yet, there are a few big issues that i think should have been solved before launch, like..
   
2. No party system at until a few months into the game. From MAGs group system to no group system meant my clan would rather have played together on MAG than struggling to play together on S4.
   
3. Expolsives are far too overpowered on this game. I feel it's really a tactical game of hide and seek, where if my enemy has a granade launcher and sees me, i'm dead. I also seem to be a magnet to random granades, they fall infront of me i die, next to me i die, behind me and icon dissapears and i still die.

Conclusion

• If you play this game on your own, you're unlikely to come across the games two main issues.
  
• If you play this game with friends or a clan, then you'll experience the bad side of this game. They just need to fix the party system and server issues, wich Zipper say "Sonys looking into it".
  
• For me, i really enjoy this game, dispite what "true socom vets" say about the "socom feel". I played Socom 2 and loved it, same thing with Socom 4.
  
• Socom 4, for me, feels very tactical and you really do want to be playing with a group of friends or a clan. If you need a clan that plays tactically, take a look at my clans website.

what other third person games you played. as far as the camera goes its crap compared to the old socoms uncharted and dare i say mw2. you have a way better view on those games you can see your surroundings better people will rarely slip by you, and you can actually see things on the ground without having to look directly down

Here is my thoughts on the game:

Good:

It is a 3rd person view.

Clan matches.

Bad:

The game can be fun at times but

• lag
• Game freezes
• Grenades that blow up at your feet after throwing them across the map.
• Grenade Launchers that blow up in the barrel or on invisible walls in front of you.
• Cover system that encourages camping.
• Way too many bushes on each map.
• Poor map design.
• Objectives that blink so that everyone knows that you are trying to take them. (Ruins stealth)
• XP
• Weapon modding
• Bad mic system
• Inconsistent shooting
• etc

causes the game to get tiresome.

Conclusion:

Rent the game and see if you like it.

Then consider the next patch will make it worse..
