essential RPGs?

15 replies 1 views Edited Feb 21, 2006
As a college student who is usually low on cash, I only managed to buy a playstation 2 a couple of months ago, but it's the one without the hard drive, so I can't play Final Fantasy X. As a huge RPG fan, which games do I NEED to play?

Thanks!

You can play FFX.  You just can't play FFXI, which is the online one.

RPGs for $19.99 I'd recommend:

  • Final Fantasy X
  • Final Fantasy X-2
  • Kingdom Hearts
    • (an action-RPG, so keep that in mind)
  • Star Ocean: Till the End of Time
    • action battle system. sci-fi RPG
  • Dark Cloud 2 (haven't played it, but I heard it's really good)
  • Xenosaga I & II
    • sci-fi RPGs, heard they were good too.

I know there's some I'm forgetting, but those are just off the top of my head.

You need the HDD for Final Fantasy XI, not X. There is a list of RPG you want to play:
Final Fantasy X
Final Fantasy X-2
Kingdom Hearts
Tales of Legendia
Grandia III
Star Ocean: Till The End Of Time
Okage: Shadow King
InuYasha: The Secret Of The Cursed Mask (My personal favorite)

There are others that will give you names of other RPGs. Look them up and see which one you want to play

I had Dark Cloud 2, and it is a way better RPG than the first one. Among the improvements are you can can make inventions, the graphics are cell-shaded (which do look good), and they improved the georama system, which you can built your own town. Would I recommend this game? Although I sold it, I wish I never. So yes, I would recommend it.

Shadow Hearts and Shadow Hearts : Covenant. No game screams college student as these two beauts. I highly recommend them. Great story, great battle system, great characters, great setting and mood.

I LOVE it when people don't read the thread, let alone the post of the topic.

You should also consider Ps1 RPGs. The number of great RPGs on the PS1 are too numerous to count, and you should be able to find them fairly cheaply. Any of the FFs, Breath of Fire, Front Mission 3, and so on. For cheap PS2 RPGs, you're probably going to be stuck with FFX and Shadow Hearts for now. There are a lot of highly anticipated RPGs this year, and they're going to be in the $40-$50 range.

what all they say is correct i have to say, FORGET THEM, get a ps1 memory card for your ps2 then get final fantasy chronicles and final fantasy anthologies. you can get each for anywhere betten 10 and 20 bucks... plus they both have two games in each. i mean you get the ultimate rpgs in here: chrono trigger, final fantasy IV, final fantasy V, and final fantasy VI. 4 of the best rpgs ever created.

You can hardly find any of the good RPGs for the PS1 anymore...and what do you mean by "stuck with Shadow hearts"?
