Its been years since I last played this game and its up now on the playstation for $20.
Playstation Plus users get 1hr to try it out and it is just as amazing as when i first played it.
I dont have a 3D tv but I still wouldnt mind getting this game again.
Well, I have a 3DTV (passive one, I like it better than active 3D tvs), and so far, 3D gaming on this is amazing. Crysis is very cool, Wipeout HD is just pure awesomeness in 3D, and some games on another system also are very good (although 3D support is better implemented in the PS3).
But I've been a Ridge Racer fan since I played the first one in the arcades even before the PS1 came out. And while I haven't bought every version of this franchise out there, it is probably one of the best arcade racing game I know. I agree it's not for everyone, but I just love Ridge Racer.
I only got my PS3 since a couple of weeks already, so I never had the chance to actually play RR7. And it's very hard to find in stores (I practically never buy used games), so it's 100% official that I'll be buying that new version during the weekend. I heard it is not "that" much different than Ridge Racer 6 (which I played to death), but to me, that's not a bad thing as I loved it a lot. Many say that Ridge Racer never changes, and maybe that's what I like about the series. They're not trying to reinvent the wheel everytime. It always feels like Ridge Racer, so I always know what to expect from it. And it's hard to be let down by something you're already expecting. That is, if you like what you're expecting, of course.
I can't wait to play Ridge Racer in 3D.
New version? The "3D Licence Version" is just a free ~15mb patch for the old game, but not a newer retail version of RR7 if that's what you meant. Still, if you're looking online it should be very easy to find a new and sealed copy of the game for a cheap price.
And yeah, when you already liked RR6 you'll most probably love RR7. It's basically the same game with slightly updated looks, some additional tracks and cars, more customization and a refined nitrous system.
Hey RV1985 (or anyone else), did you download the free 3D patch then? I'm still abit confused as to whether I have to pay the $20 on PSN to be able to play the game in 3D even if I already own the retail version of Ridge Racer 7? Any info or first-hand experience would be much appreciated, thanks! Best,
I'm not completely sure about the situation in the US PSN store with the 3D Licence patch since I downloaded it from the European one, and there everything was free. If you already own the game there shouldn't be anything else to be paid for as far as I know. You'll automatically download and install v1.01 for RR7 when starting the game while being online (if you haven't done so already), and after that you can just go and grab the actual 3D Licence Version from the store...that should be it.
But honestly, since none of the regulars here on the board had a fitting TV at the time, nobody could tell if the patch actually does much...to me on my old screen the game just looks the very same it always did, and there's no other changes in the menu or anywhere else as well. *shrugs*
As if the numbers of us old forum goers that still post here every couple months were looking any better at this point pippi
Well, at least the idea of a community race sounds interesting, if anything like this would come up in the near future I'd most probably join in...assuming there's also a few other people actually participating
