Re: Resident Evil 6: Do you think it'll be worth getting straight away?

Up to this point, I've played all the main story arcs in the Resident Evil series... not including side chapters or other side games that I didn't see the potential in a sale. Resident Evil was one of the first PlayStation games I've actually played on a PlayStation console at home. Then when the second one came out I loved that one a lot as well. The third was passable, although different. The fourth had a very unique and captivating gameplay system that was very fresh at the time, engaging many players including myself. Resident Evil 5 was pretty good, but like Resident Evil 4 before it the game was a much more action-survival game. The game felt sort of the same except not quite as excellent. You can say the freshness wore off.

The co-op element was new to the series in 2009, but not new to gaming as a whole. Having an online buddy to help out was kind of interesting, although not needed. The computer intelligence worked just fine, except when it came to things like not using grenades. But now we're back to this, looking at a mirror image of the Resident Evil we've been through three years prior. Yeah, zombies are back and Leon and Chris are finally together in one game. It's supposed to be a combination of all the best ingredients of the franchise, but I still have my doubts that the sixth installment will have the brilliance fans once admired so long ago.

You speak of how the "freshness" wore off by RE4. You should try replaying RE1, 2 or 3. The control system is so horrible and outdated the could blend in at the stoneage section of a museum.

More action is a good thing. I find it funny how RE fans moan about the direction the series took, yet they would be complaining if Capcom had of stuck with the same far from perfect formula.

It's funny how nostalgia works.

In the past couple of years I have, for the most part, replayed the first Resident Evil and for a little while the second one as well. Still great as it was when I first played it, yeah the control mechanics might not be as fluid or intuitive as some of today's, but as a PlayStation user Resident Evil is one of the first games I've ever played on the system. I grew up with it. I loved the game so much that I just kept on playing through it over and over. It was great then... and it still is.

Ultimately, I've decided to pass on getting Resident Evil 6 right away. While the game looks kind of good it doesn't strike me as a must-have. It's the kind of game that reminds me of others. When a game isn't distinctive it only manages to blend. That's a loss of identity, and I'd rather Resident Evil 6 have an identity.

Re: Resident Evil 6: Do you think it'll be worth getting straight away?

I think it's worth it. For one, if your a fan of the series. The most important thing is the story.

Second, I play them because they were fun. The first three, the puzzles were hard and amazing. The hard part was staying alive to solve the puzzles at all.

I liked all of the games personally, 1-3 had puzzles. 4 had the solo action survivor. 5 had co-op daytime survivor. To me 6 is somewhat of a mix. (Ada being solo part)

As others said, if you like the first 3; buy them and play them.

Re: Resident Evil 6: Do you think it'll be worth getting straight away?

In answer to the OP question:

NO.

This game is not up to par.  The character movement and control is unbelievely clunky.  The straffing is too slow.  The gun play is questionable, and being prompted to do common things like jump down from a table is just plain silly.  There's way too many prompts in the game.   This game would have been excellent about 7-8 years ago, cause that's the technology they're using for their character movement.

It's crap in a box.  That simple.

If you ever played the Uncharted series, Red Dead Redemption, or the Assassin Creed Series, then the character movement for RE 6 is simply UNACCEPTABLE.

It will be a good purchase about 9 months to year from retail release when you can pick it up cheap for like $20.

F + for Capcom on this one.

Re: Resident Evil 6: Do you think it'll be worth getting straight away?

I'm a big RE fan. I want this to be good but I have mixed feelings.

Chris's campaign is so boring and uninspired. It felt like i was playing a low-budget TPS.

Leon's campaign was pretty amazing. Really liked the atmosphere

Jake's campaign is not bad, but it doesn't overly impress me either.

Overall i think it was okay, but the gameplay feels a little unpolished

Hopefully the retail version will be better.

I really looking forward to this game, so please don't screw this up CapCom.

I loved RE5 and RE6 looks to be bigger and better than the previous game. Got the regular edition preordered already.

if you own the dlc for re5 go play the one at the mansion, go to the door and hit i think square?   its been ahwile but i think there are dogs or something outside the door, its something to draw you over there, you hit the action button and it changes to the re1 and 2 control system and view.  if you can manage to get yourself back to the door you hit the button again and it changes it back.

you never played the other resident evils did you?  because with the exception of orc the controls and movement is miles above the older games.

Played:  RE, RE2, and RE4.

When I said that it was not up to par, I was talking about modern 3rd person games in general.  I was not comparing it to other RE titles.  In that context, yes it is better than older RE titles.  I just meant control and freedom of movement which you have with other titles, that is not as good in RE 6.

Has my opinion changed since playing this demo significantly.  Yeah.  It has a bit, but not enough to make it worth $60 as a preorder or as a release day purchase.  I might buy this game, but it won't be unitl it is significantly cheaper.

Re: Resident Evil 6: Do you think it'll be worth getting straight away?

When playing the demo, I was confused by the controls, still am. So as far as mechanics go, they shoved too much into this DualShock 3 controller. I'm sure I just got to get the hang of it, but it's too much memorization when I'm trying to stay alive.

And what's with the no pause feature!?

I understand if your playing online co-op, but why can't we do it in single player. I need a break now and again.
