It's been about a month since the last time I've logged onto the Red Dead network. There were quite a few people on at the time, even to the extent where I'd saddled up into someone else's posse. If you're still not finding a single person, send me an invite sometime. I'll mosey over to your gang then if you feel like poisoning enemies with lead.
You eventually need to adjust your NAT type in the network settings first. Google for it. I never met other players until I fixed it. Other games seem to tell you if your NAT type is "wrong", but Red Dead Redemption apparently just puts you up into an empty world without any information on this matter.
