Re: Red Dead Redemption freezing

Put me on the list of people unable to play RDR for more than 30 mins without it freezing.  I usually get the "everything starts floating" issue, then I have to power-cycle my PS3.  So annoying.  I'm on a 120GB fat PS3.  Sony, please push for a fix from Rockstar!

Re: Red Dead Redemption freezing

Now I can't start any of the single player missions. I'm up to "Hanging Bonnie MacFarlane", "Liars, Cheats, and other Proud Americans," and "Let the Dead Bury Their Dead" but I can't start any of them.

I can load up my saved game no problem, but then when I try to start any of the missions I'm stuck at the mission's loading screen forever. It never starts the mission.

This is the most annoying thing I've ever experienced on my PS3. I guess I'll have to blow away everything and start over without installing the 1.05 update.

Re: Red Dead Redemption freezing

I actually do think it's a hardaware problem bacause not everyone get those freezes.

When a new open world game or game that strain the system a lot graphically otherwise appears, I notice a lot people complain on freezes and similar issues.

Either GPU or CPU could overheat and cause a freeze. It may be caused by poor contact between cooler and CPU/GPU. If that's the case, the poor assembly quality of ps3s is to blame.

Personally, I got a new 320gb slim and had a few freezes in GoW3 during my 15+hrs playthrough and yesterday got a freeze after about a hour of playing RDR. Hadn't any in Heavy Rain though.

People who have contsnt freezes in RDR, please try to keep your ps3 as cool as possible while rinning RDR, and report if the situation will change. I mean place it near window, cool it with a conditioner or something. This way we'll able to determine if it's the game or the hardware (as I think now).

Well I just got my PS3 SLIM back from Sony. Brand new HDD.. but I m scared to try this game again, after all it's what send my PS3 packing in the first place.

okay I took a chance and played the game in October. Not a single freeze during the entire single campaign. Never played more than 3 hours session. After a session I let my PS3 cool for at least 2 hours, but most of the time I only played it once per day. I didn't get on in MP as I don't like it as much as single.

I think the freezing issues has to do with what type of HD you have. When I got my PS3 back from Sony, they replaced the HD and the disk reading laser (don't know how exactly you called it, don't have the work paper near by).

I just got the undead nightmare add and it automatically download the 1.5 patch version. The game was cool for 2hrs. Then Freeze. Had to restart the PS3. Then, just after 5min playin', Freeze again. Before downloading the new add, I've stopped to play this game because of a freaking freeze every 15 min.

I run a search on the forum and find out that there's not only RDR that kept freezing (personal experience with Fall out every time I was loading a new area, really nice when playing in a open environment!!)

If it's the system that get overloaded cause of the graphic, why not on Assassin's Creed II then?

Re: Red Dead Redemption freezing

I'm on an original 60 gb system that had been upgraded with a 250 gb harddrive.  I'm getting freezing every 15 minutes or so on rdr's single play undead dlc.  I don't think it's an over heating issue as I turned my apartment's termostat way down to the point that the room is only 60 degrees and the system is an open area and I'm still getting the freezing issues.

This is really frustrating, especially cause it's such a great add-on.  This is like dealing with Fallout 3's space and swamp dlcs all over again.  Hopefully there's a patch.  If Rockstar fixes this i'll consider picking up GTA IV's dlc (and I was disappointed with GTAIV to begin with).

Re: Red Dead Redemption freezing

I bought a new PS3 Slim (I had the fat 160GB) and was still having issues with the game, at the exact same spots. I couldn't start certain missions, and riding around on the horse caused the game to lock up regularly.

Then I returned my game for a new copy, and now everything works perfectly. Haven't had a single crash since. Must've been a bad disc!

Re: Red Dead Redemption freezing

Possible fix: back up your data, deactivate your PS3 in the Playstation Network account settings (so you can re-download anything you've bought) and do a System Restore (a "Quick" one worked for me).

It solved the infinite loading screen -- not sure if it fixed the freezing yet, though.

Re: Red Dead Redemption freezing

Same here normal single player. This game is garbage and I am glad I chose to steal it. I full well knew it was unplayable but I needed to see for myself without wasting the money. I will be selling it to amazon. What a crock of ****. Not only is it a TERRIBLE port the thing doesn't even work. Sweet sauce Rockstar!

As to the poster above No. That is not right. You should not have to do anything like that for a game. Nobody should do that because that is just wrong. This is a game designed to work on your PS3 without doing anything to your system. Deactivating you PS3 for a crap game like this is way beyond excessive. Some people have literally hundreds of gigs of downloads dude.
