I am already past the point where I can do it naturally, so I was wondering.......if I just replay 20 different missions and use the same horse, will this satisfy the trophy? Don't want to waste the time if it doesn't. Any help would be appreciated

I don't know for a fact, but I doubt it. The trophy states "20 consecutive missions" ... and that's not the same as selecting 20 of them.
I'm in the same boat ... I'm almost at 100%, then I'm gonna' start a new game for that trophy.

Oh well, and what about those missions where you have to ride shotgun on the stagecoach?

There are plenty of threads that write about the "what if's" ... and the horse races etc. I'm not sure which of those theories are accurate or not. But most of them conclude that they don't affect the trophy, as long as you don't hitch-up any new horse you happen to get.
My plan is to simply get my hands on that one horse you get from Bonnie missions, hitching it, then never hitching another horse until I hear the trophy ding.
If my horse dies on a mission, I'll restart from a previous save.
If you follow this plan, the trophy should ding right around the time you enter into Mexico.

Good tips, copied from another forum ...
somebody wrote:*Always whistle for your horse when allowed. Do not take a horse from a hitching post, not even your own, unless the game forces you to do so. If you see your horse is hitched, just whistle and it will come. ***This may or may not be necessary but I think it's better to be safe than have to replay 21 missions over and over again.
*Do not hitch any horse, including your own, to a hitching post. The game will force you to do this a couple of times at the beginning.
*On the Seth mission when he tells you to steal a horse, instead mount your own horse and point your weapon at the law officers or lasso one of their horses. When you get your bounty, ride away and they will follow.
*If your horse dies, reload your most recent game-save.
*Do not use any horse deeds
If this is your first play-through and you will be doing side missions and such, make sure you use your campsite to save often. Challenges do not auto-save until completed, so save after any progress you make with challenges.
*spoiler* You will get a new horse after a mission with Bonnie. As long as you follow the above guidelines, this will not reset your counter.
If you are starting a new game just to get this achievement and want to get through as quickly as possible, use your campsite to fast travel to mission start locations and skip cut scenes. It will still probably take a couple of hours.
***teamwrk has verified that missions replayed from the Stats > Missions menu ***DO NOT*** count toward this achievement.

quite frankly, i'm a little confused as to what the actual requirements for this trophy are. i've seen several lists of tips and none of them really seem to say the same thing.
the red dead wiki page even says that if you hitch your first horse and never hitch another horse again, even if your horse dies, you will get this trophy.
i think it's the hitching thing that is making it confusing for me... can someone clarify why you wouldn't keep hitching the horse you have decided to keep using or take that same horse from a hitching post for 20 missions?

I got the trophy on accident. I did the racing missions and such and still got it. I'm very loyal to my horse.. haha

So after not getting this trophy this first go around, I had to start the story again. It took me about 30 missions to FINALLy get it. This was after paying attention to not hitch a horse after not being made to do it by the game. So the earliest you would be able to get this trophy would be about 23 missions in. After paying annoying attention, the only thing that happened to me was that my horse was killed during a mission. I know thats why it took long for me, 'cuz I never hitched a horse after being forced to do so.
Recommendations:
Dont hitch a horse
Save only using your campfire site
Grab another horse for traveling to or during missions so it doesn't get killed
One of those dumb trophies that just gives you headaches. Best of Luck
