Factsheet:

• Insomniac Games has overhauled its proprietary PlayStation 3 engine technology to create the most visceral Ratchet & Clank universe yet, overflowing with exotic creatures and flying vehicles.
• Experience many more objects on screen and in more intricate detail than what was possible on PlayStation 2 Ratchet & Clank games.
• The PlayStation 3 system's superior power enables Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction to bring vivid worlds to life with increased draw distances, enhanced lighting and shadowing, and more fluid and exaggerated animations.
• Discover an all-new galaxy spanning vast worlds such as a majestic cloud city and a space-age amusement park.
• Encounter an entirely new cast of expressive characters (and some old favorites) as well as the introduction of a variety of new alien races and life forms.
• Experience a more emotive Ratchet with nearly as many animation joints in his face (90) as PlayStation 2 Ratchet had in his entire body (112). This joint density applies to many of the characters featured in Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, enabling more detailed, personable and expressive characters.
• Clank returns as a playable character, and Ratchet will have new enhanced abilities.
• Fire a fully stocked arsenal of all-new weapons such as the Plasma Beasts and Tornado Launcher, which uses the SIXAXIS controller to direct tornadoes that suck up enemies and whip them around with debris.
• Use the SIXAXIS controller to maneuver, destroy enemies and solve puzzles.
• Upgrade and customize weapons with a new system that provides greater power and flexibility. Players also will have the ability to upgrade Ratchet's armor.
• Utilize Ratchet's new supply of consumable "on-demand" combat devices, such as the Groovitron, which causes enemies to dance uncontrollably to '70s disco hits.
• Gadgets gameplay returns as Ratchet and Clank will have more gadgets at their disposal to help them bounce, fly, evade and defy gravity.
• Pilot Ratchet's ship through asteroid fields while trying to destroy enemy fleets in a complete redesign of classic Ratchet & Clank space combat gameplay.

Storyline:

Emperor Tachyon's hatred of all things Lombax is what drives Tools Of Destruction's plot. He's the leader of a race called the Cragmites, who in a past war suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of the Lombax race. Ratchet knows nothing about his race and origins so when Tachyon appears, his talk of the Lombax and their great warrior past arouses Ratchet's curiosity and he sets off to find more information.

However, he's not the only one looking for answers. As Ratchet explores, he meets a new female character, a girl called Talwyn who's searching for her father. He vanished years ago, while searching for the mysterious 'Lombax secret'...

Basic Details:

* Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction will play more like its early predecessors. This means that the game will most likely return to its roots.
* The game will be 60% action and 40% adventuring/platforming.
* Insomniac aim to make action sequences chain together to create a massive series of intense events.
* The game will be running at 60fps.
* Star Fox-style space combat in-between travelling to different planets but this time, the space battles will have a big makeover visually.
* Gadgetron return which means more wacky and inventive weapons for Ratchet!
* Raritanium is now more common than ever before.
* Better planet visuals are now incorporated when you enter a planet's atmosphere.
* Clank's playability has been boosted by the fact that he has new abilities such as levitation and time-control. The Zoni can also help Clank out.
* New quests are enabled for Ratchet through the interaction of many of the NPCs throughout the game. The Smuggler is one of the main characters who hands out quests to Ratchet. Instead of being straight-forward missions, interactive dialogue means that Ratchet can choose how he plays the mission out.
* Gold bolts are the main special collectibles.
* Arena combat will return.
* Clank is controllable when in space combat situations.

Characters:

* Ratchet, along with Clank, return. Ratchet is the last Lombax in the universe and he will be searching for the Lombax secret.
* Clank will be playable again and he also discovers new powers.
* Captain Qwark will be the only other returning character from the other games. He will be up to no good like usual. He's sort of working for the main bad guy, Tachyon, who wants to kill off all Lombaxes, yet Qwark may also guide Ratchet & Clank.
* Along the way, Ratchet and Clank team up with a new female character named Talwyn who's searching for her father.
* Emporer Percival Tachyon - the main bad guy. He wants to finish off the Lombax race because they defeated him in war a long time ago.
* The Plumber. What would Ratchet & Clank do without the amazing Plumber?
* Cronk & Zephyr - protectors of Talwyn ever since her father disappeared. Cronk & Zephyr bicker over who's technology is better as Cronk contains a Blu-Ray player and Zephyr has better online abilities. They had a friend called Willy who was and easily excited and would constantly wave his arms around but he didn't survive the last battle with the other two.
* Captain Slag and Rusty Pete are two bloodthirsty robotic space-pirates who will no doubt be out for Ratchet and Clank.
* The Smuggler appears on several planets and you're able to obtain new gadgets from him.
* Grummel is the weapons-vendor salesman.
* The Zoni, a strange ethereal, semi-robotic species that only Clank is able to see. Clank seems to be able to gain new powers (Robo-Wings etc.) from these creatures.

Weapons:

* The Tornado Launcher will be used to fire twisters which can capture enemies. The method of controlling these twisters is by using the SIXAXIS and tilting it. Ratchet himself can be maneouvered around with the left analog stick whilst this is going on. It's upgrade, the Tempest Launcher, results in lightning bolts being fired off from the initial tornado. Also, the upgrade initiates a scatter effect when you relinquish control over the tornado.
* The Pyro Blaster works in the same way as the Pyrocitor in the first Ratchet & Clank. A simple flamethrower-type weapon.
* The Combustor works in a similar fashion to the Meteor Gun in previous titles. It can also set the ground alight which can hurt Ratchet. Its upgrade, the Magma Combustor now has a rapid-firing feature.
* The Plasma Beast is a weapon that throws out small balls which result in sludge creatures emerging that attack the enemies. It's upgrade, the Plasma Stalker fires out even larger creatures.
* The Buzz Blades are small sharp throwing blades that can be fired in quick succession which can rebound off walls too.
* The Fusion Grenades are grenades that are thrown by Ratchet resulting in big explosions with a wide blast radius. It's upgrade, the Fusion Bomb explodes like a cluster bomb in which smaller bombs are released from the initial explosion.
* The Negotiator is a powerful single-shot rocket launcher.
* The Predator is a beast of a rocket launcher that fires out multiple homing missiles. It's upgrade, the Raptor Launcher can cause a heavy napalm effect after initial impact.
* The Alpha Disruptor fires out lasers which can also be charged up to increase the damage dealt to enemies.
* The Razor Claws are fast melee weapons in which Ratchet can use hand-to-hand combat in order to dispatch his foes.
* The Ravager is a whip weapon which can also pick up and hurl enemies.
* The Reaper functions as the staple shotgun weapon.
* The Mag-Net Launcher fires an electromagnetic field which surrounds enemies and electrifies them. It's upgrade, the Magnet Cannon can cause enemies to attack eachother.
* The Nanoswarmers heat-seeking nanobots that can attack any enemy within range depending on their placement.

Combat Devices:

* The Groovitron is a combat device that fires out disco balls which can result in the enemies dancing to the music being played allowing for Ratchet to take them out. "Night Fever" by the BeeGees is the song that plays. Each enemy has a different dance.
* The Visi-Copter is a combat device that sends out a small helicopter gadget which is controlled by the SIXAXIS motion sensors. You fly around and can witness the battle from its perspective. It also fires out missiles.
* The Death Springs are essentially Slinkys of Doom that bounce around the environment targetting enemies to destroy in the form of blowing up on them.
* Mr Zurkon is a small flying robot that helps Ratchet in battles. He's armed with a powerful laser as well some one-liners to help add to the humour.
* The Transmorpher returns and the animal of choice? Penguins! Ratchet can turn his foes in to penguins but like the previous games, the size of the enemy determines how long it will take for it to morph. There are different types of penguins-some with beany scarves, some emperors, and others with Qwark caps. When used, it creates a "snow effect".
* Turncoat Bombs
* Confuzzler Gas
* Leech Bomb

Gadgets:

* The Swingshot returns and can now be used to hitch a ride on vehicles.
* The Gravity Boots return which enables Ratchet to walk on vertical surfaces and upside-down. Ratchet can also double-jump and use new gravity rails and ramps.
* The Charge Boots also return which enables Ratchet to speed over great distances using the jet pack-like properties in the boots.
* The Grind Boots is the last gadget to appear again which enables Ratchet to grind across rails.
* The Gelanator is a combat device that enables Ratchet to create platforms and structures allowing him to reach higher ground.
* The Geo-Laser is a Clank-powered laser you'll use to carve new paths through certain obstacles. You'll use the controller's motion-sensing feature to direct the powerful beam of energy minigame-style.
* The Robo-Wings are a new Clank-powered way to get around, and they're basically glider wings. You'll use the Sixaxis to steer and adjust your height while airborne.
* The Pirate Costume allows Ratchet to disguise himself as a a space pirate.
* The Gyro-Cycle is a bike-like gadget which is used to maneuver through tunnels and platforms etc.
* The Decryptor is a hacking gadget that is used to power up and power down systems.

Upgrade System:

The weapons will feature a seemingly complex upgrade system, somewhat similar to the License Board in Final Fantasy XII. Using collected metals, you can "unlock" a particular upgrade, which enables you to unlock all the spaces around it on a pre-arranged grid. It is in this way that the power of a weapon spreads out across the grid until you eventually enable brutal, special abilities for each weapon. But don't expect the weapons to be dramatically over-powered; devices like the Groovatron and the Death Springs are not categorized alongside your other arms. They belong to a new item set called Combat Items: rare, over-powered equipment that can only be used on occasion, and they come in short supply.

Bosses:

* Boss battles will be more epic and of a bigger scale.
* The Kerchu City boss (a giant wrecking-ball robot being manned) will be fought on rails seen in the previous titles before being fought on firm ground only to be accompanied by Kerchu rollers. A big battle for Ratchet to deal with.

Enemies & AI:

* Thanks to the power of PlayStation 3, the enemy AI will have a lot more expressions. Enemies will have different emotional states so they will change facial expressions depending on the situation such as being angry or fearful.
* Enemies also take advantage of the environment. For example, one enemy used rocks as a launching pad to leap forward and attack Ratchet.
* Up to 15 enemies can be seen in battle at once on the screen.
* The battlefield will have much more definition in terms of the atmosphere and feel to it.
