Getting ridiculous error message

Hey, I just got a brand-new 320 GB PS3 for Christmas. Tonight I bought R&C Future: Tools of Destruction. I put it into the PS3. I get an error message that says:

Your HDD has insufficient space. You need 419 MB available for the initial setup of blah blah blah

So I went into the Game Data Utility and looked at the information of the other games I have installed on the system. All there is is ModNation Racers, MW2, and Battlefield: Bad Company 2. That's it. It totals about 6 GB. I also don't have any music or movies on my system at all. So I should have roughly 314 GB of free space on the system, and the R&C game is telling me I don't have enough.

That's issue #1.

Issue #2 is that the back of the R&C game says the required hard disk space is "at least 510 KB." Yet when I start the game, it's telling me I need 419 MB. Huge difference. Why would the game's case say it only needs 510 KB if it actually needs 419 MB?

And why does it say I don't have enough space when I very obviously do?

Re: Getting ridiculous error message

The ol' Tools of Destruction can't-start-the-game glitch is still in effect, I see. This same bug happened to many who tried starting a game of Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction in the PlayStation 3's early days.

What happens is that the game itself has some weird problem of ignoring the available space on your harddrive. To fix this, you're going to have to delete 500 MB from your system. Head to the PlayStation Store. Download a demo that's at least 500 MB in size. Now delete it. It sounds like a backwards solution, but your system should accept the game once you've been through this process.

I'll try it, but aren't demos only in the double-digit KB? Like 62 KB?

I'll try it when I get home from work, by the way.

Some demos, such as this week's new arrival for The Darkness II, I believe has about a 1.3 GB capacity. Even if you haven't the desire to download something new, you could delete something you already have from your system, whether it be imagery, music, game saves or games you figure you won't use for awhile or anymore. Any full game file/demo you've bought from the store can be downloaded again at a later point. Save files and game data, on the other hand, you'd have to obtain all over again.

Re: Getting ridiculous error message

It worked before I even had to uninstall the demo. I downloaded some demo that was 700-ish MB, and then I put in R&C and it worked. Thanks for knowing the correct answer!
