Now, I want to adress my second major issue, that has creeped up as more categories of games are accepted, especially to Playstation Plus owners.

 

I am sure that Sony went into the Playstation Vita thinking, "Hey, nobody in their right minds are going to buy 85 games for the Vita, there is no reason we cannot put a limit to the amount of apps on Livearea"

 

Fast forward to August, when Playstation One support hit the Vita, on top of Mini's and PSP games, the greater problem is NOT memory card capacity, but being able to put all of your apps on one memory card, WITHOUT using all of the space.

 

Here are my current 100 bubbles(Line break on each window):

 

Friends, Party, Group Messaging, near, Maps, PS Store, Trophies, Content Manager, Remote Play, Settings

There are a half dozen games from other systems that take up about 1/4 of the memory card capacity, that is not the problem anymore.

 

I own 2 Playstation Vita's, a First Edition 3G Bundle, and the Assassin's Creed White Vita, all of this is on my 32GB card.

 

Because of LiveArea limits, I am wasting space on my memory card, unless I add videos or music to my card to fill it up.   But what about when Killzone Mercenary, Soul Sacrifice, Warrior's Lair, or other quality physical games come out?   I will GAIN space because I will be deleting larger files for said physical games specifically for the Vita.

 

There are three solutions to fix the LiveArea Limits

*   A setting in Systems, to display Games in Music Player or XMB format, this would fix all issues with LiveArea limits at the expense of one application slot

*   Adding Folders into the LiveArea(You need a memory card anyways, make it happen for an optional install)

*   Increasing the LiveArea limit to something very difficult to obtain, 500(50 windows)

Now that I have your attention, issue 2, Memory Card swapping.

 

Currently, the way LiveArea handles memory card swapping:

 

System files, and physical games that are in the exact same spot on different memory cards, will retain their location

Every other application will be randomly placed on the memory card, eliminating any organizing you may of done.

A firmware update would easily fix this, as it turns off people from purchasing multiple memory cards, generating Sony a nice chunk of profit since memory cards cost $2 to manufacture, and it would be much easier to keep memory cards for different items, especially since music play is not supported during anything but 90% of Vita games

 

For example, I would purchase 3 additional, 32GB cards if the livearea and memory card limits are fixed.   I would specifically put PSP games on one card, Mini's and PSOne games on another card.   Then I could put my Vita games and music on a card by itself, and use my Playstation Plus digital copies instead of physical, that way if I have a friend using my other Vita, we will be able to play the same game.   The fourth memory card would be used for other people in order to play games online from my second vita.

 

So, Sony could make an additional $300 off me by adressing the memory card and LiveArea limits.

I agree with the OP. The PSP had a 128 GB memory stick available for it. I understand that it may be unfair to expect a card of that size to be made available for the Vita, but I believe that it's possible that Sony could at least offer a 64 card or do a Vita revisions that comes with 32 GB of built in memory, a game card slot, and a memory card slot; similar to the PSP Go but with a slot for physical game cards. I wouldn't mind shelling out $160 for a 64 GB card.

There are many advantages to larger cards.   The biggest is the fact that Sony and the publisher receive 95% of the profits(I say 95% because there are some people with 2 Vita's, that can use said content twice) by being more download friendly.

 

The advantage to having a downloaded copy is that you do not have to switch cartridges.   Many people support this format that the PSP started, especially with their loud UMD drive, it also saves wear and tear on your Blu-Ray drive.

 

In hindsight, in order to fill up a 64GB card, with the livearea limit, each of your games have to be at least 1GB big, and with physical cartridges, that is impossible since most games even with patches are less than 100MB.

 

Of course, one also has to think about both Videos and Music.   I'm sure there are people that would foolish fill an entire 64GB card with music, porn if that is what their heart desires.

 

However, until Sony does something about the LiveArea limit, I will not be purchasing any Playstation Mobile Games.

So recently on the Playstation Blog, I mentioned such issues(As have others)   in their Alarm Clock app post.    They said they are working on a fix to the LiveArea, I'm sure the easiest fix is simply categorizing games or making an application for games specifically.

 

If they have a folder for Games, I hope that folder can be further broken down into the following categories:

 

PSVita

Cross Platform/Cross Play Compatible games(Being able to auto start Remote Play on said games when the neccessary games are in one or more machines would be cool)

PSP

PSOne

Mini

Playstation Mobile

Neo Geo

Sega Genesis

All A-Z

All Recently Played

 

If they move all GAMES into a folder, Apps shouldn't need this treatment for a very long time, if ever.

 

This would fix the LiveArea limits.

 

Now, if they could fix the code so "Recreating the Database"   doesn't screw up with your bubble positioning, said fix should also fix this issue though and it wouldn't matter.

 

Also to those of you **bleep** about a Playstation Vita revamp:   Let me tell you, STUPID!   The way it is now, is very easy to navigate.   You should be **bleep** about the new Playstation Store for PS3, and at least allowing the old version/fix Facebook posting.

Don't complain to sony complain to all the pireters who hacked there psp and download all the games for free!! that's why the vita has propritary incripted cards that coast more to make yes they could be a little lower in price but what can you do

I will never support pirates, but if expensive proprietery media is needed, that did not stop Sony designing the Vita to have larger memory cards.

 

I have deleleted nearly all of the free games, apps, music, videos and everything I do not play....I now have enough room for 2-3 more games and 15 more slots for card based games (presuming they don't need much memory). This I will do way before the end of this year. This leaves me with the following options:

 

1/ Use another memory card. This I find risky. The cards are small and very easy to drop and lose. The cards look delicate and not up to constant changing. The Vita does not seem to like changing memory cards and I have tried it and lost data. The icons move positions when changing cards. The card door does not seem designed for constant opening and closing.

 

2/ Change over media to a computer. This option is no longer an option for myself at this time as I do not have a compatible operating system on my computers. I do not have a PS3. buying either Windows or a PS3 would help, but would still not help with the slow backup times of changing media. A costly option.

 

3/ Buy another PS Vita and 32GB card. A bit annoying this one, as I could buy a many games for the price. Yes, I would then have a spare Vita for the Wife to try to beat me at some games, but again a costly option.

 

I am very surprised that Sony did not envisage these problems with them making all games avaliable via download. To blame pirates for the propriatory system is logical, but to blame them for Sony making a limit on memory size and bubble amount, does not add up.

 

These two problems can be changed by Sony. Sony give us more bubbles or folders and give us bigger memory cards. If you do not, I will probably go with option 4!! Yes....the mystery option...I can buy a 3DS and 128GB memory card for less than a Vita...then I have two fun systems.....but the bigger memory card and more games downloaded is way easier to keep the wife happy!
