Re: router sugestions?

dmz is pretty easy to set.

You need to give a specific IP to the PS3. and then in the DMZ settings you just type in the IP you gave to the PS3.

As for setting the IP ... look on your router for those settings. They are different for each brand. Basically, you'll need to know the MAC address of your PS3. You'll type that in along with the IP you want to give it, and then from then on, your PS3 will always have that IP address.

I think if you go into the PS3 settings somewhere you can get it to show you the MAC address.

The IP address you assign it will probably need to look something like 192.168.0.xxx

xxx being a number between 1 and 255 - anyone will due as long as nothing else is using it. If you have say 4 other devices that go online, you could just make it 192.168.0.10, since the other devices are more then likely using 1-4

Re: router sugestions?

yes, it's called a static IP. There's should be a setting somewhere in the router menu where you can assign a specific IP address to specific machines. If you do a google search for linksys (or whatever brand your router is) static IP it'll probably pull up some how-to's.

It should be easy to do once you have the PS3's mac address.

The DMZ (demilitarized zone) is set mainly by using the MAC address of the device and not the IP address.  If you set the MAC address for your device in the settings for putting something in the DMZ then that should be all you need to do.  The IP address won't matter because each device has a pre-set MAC address that never changes.  Trust me, I do this stuff for extra money on the weekend.

Re: router sugestions?

i think i found it it was under LAN IP on my netgear router and i got it to assign 192.168.1.22 to my psp just to see if it would work, and it did. so now all i have to do is do that for my ps3 and open some ports and it should work right?

Re: router sugestions?

Jaybone - i dont know what you do for extra money, but not all routers are the same. On the last two routers I had, I set the DMZ by setting the IP address.

http://kbserver.netgear.com/kb_web_files/n101146.asp

And if you look there, it seems like most/all of netgear's routers use the IP to set the DMZ.

As does linksys
http://www.sitway.com/home/english/router/LinkSysRouter.htm

As does d-link
http://support.dlink.com/emulators/wbr2310/adv_dmz.htm

I hope you aren't charging too much for your services

Maybe some routers use the MAC address to set the DMZ. But I'm guessing linksys, netgear and d-link are the most commonly used.

What i use the MAC address on my routers is to set the IP address.

Re: router sugestions?

INFO: i just looked on my netgear, this is what you would have to do:

go into LAN IP Setup

Look under LAN TCP/IP setup and make a note of the IP address -it's probablt 192.168.0.1 but it could be 192.168.XXX.XXX

xxx being anything from 1 to 255

under address reservation add in the PS3 (or psp if you are testing it with that first). You'll need the MAc address of which ever system you are adding. You need to give it an IP that matches the first 3 sets of numbers that were under the IP address above
so if it were 192.168.123.1 then give the PS3 and IP of 192.168.123.10 (or whatever number you prefer at the end). Just make sure its a few numbers past 1 to avoid any conflict with any other devices on your network.

Then under WAN setup, you'll see Default DMZ server. Check that and put in whatever IP you've assigned to the PS3, click apply and you're done.
