You need to run an ethernet cable from the router to the back of the PS3, or setup the PS3 to use a wireless Internet connection (if you have a wireless router) under Network Settings using the built-in wireless adapter.

The instruction manual should have some basic instructions.

could you describe your setup a little bit better? Like modem->router, etc.

i got a motorola modem, (surfboard modem) and a linksys wireless-g broadband router. The modem is connected to the router right now as we speak. Everything is good down here. I just cannot get a connection up stairs. I got a 150gb ps3, when I scan for it i find someone elses connection with like 5% on it or less. I manualy put in my ip addy and DNS address and still cannot connect to anything. I also plugged in the linksys usb signal adapter to the ps3, it read it as linksys and still could not connect,.

I'm not sure how the adapter worked, but make sure that in your router's config page (192.168.1.1) SSID is set to broadcast.

Well i'm thinking that you are too far away from the router especially since it's a g router. Could you try moving it closer or try connecting it via ethernet?
