• Sony's new optional subscription service.
• For a limited time you get 3 months free for signing up for a yearly subscription.
• Pricing: A yearly fee of $49.99, and 3 months for $17.99.
• Availability: June 29.

What is it?

PlayStation Plus is a service that lives on top of the current PlayStation Network. So, while users will continue to have free access to PlayStation Network’s unmatched and ever-growing suite of new and exclusive content, services, and community focused tools – just as they do today – PlayStation Plus subscribers will gain access to an exclusive set of features and content designed specifically for gamers.

Subscription Advantages

Subscribers get: free games and DLC, frequent discounts on PlayStation Store, early invitations to select betas of popular games, and free monthly episodes of Qore.

New functionality

• Full Game Trial where you can “try before you buy” – play a Blu-ray or PSN game for up to one hour and then you can buy the game, download it and keep your progress and trophies.
• Automatic Downloads that will push select demos, game related videos, patches and firmware updates to your PS3.

Available at Launch

At launch, you will be able to download:

•  WipEout HD free, 
• a full game trial of inFAMOUS
• PSP minis
• PS One Classics such as Fieldrunners, Age of Zombies and Rally Cross
• Premium avatars, themes and DLC levels and map packs. 

Availability of Content

Subscribers will always have access to their virtual library of free games for as long as they keep their PlayStation Plus subscription. Once your subscription is up you lose access to your free stuff. You keep the content you paid for. When you renew your subscription you will regain access to the free content you received.

I wish they'd just bury the PS2 already and get the emulation going on PSN.

If there is no Cross Game Chat or any features that actually add to my online experience then I won't be subscribing.

it looks good.....basically its quore (which you get with the plus package) but much much better 

invites to betas free stuff  and only 50 bucks...not too shabby

I think $50(?) a year is a good deal for that type of content. But I need to know exactly what it offers before I make a decision.

One thing i'm not too sure about is the access to the content. It says on the website that once the subscription ends, you lose access to the content. But what if you take a break from the subscription and then join back up later? Would you regain access to the titles or what?

Right now Playstation Plus sounds decent. $50 a year for added exclusive content sounds good. The features currently being offered aren't quite enough to pull me into this deal though. Hopefully more and better features will be released later.

You get to select 1 free PSone Classic each month. So in 1 year, you'll have a total of 12 classics. (also 12 PSN games, and 24 minis)
