how do i reset my password on my ps3?

yes im in a bit of a pickle right now...i signed up for playstation network to use playstation 3 online and to download some classic games (i have been without internet for YEARS T_T) i signed up for an account but it seems my ps3 still has a ssid registered to it and wont let me sign into my account from it. downside of buying used...and because i have been without internet for so long i didnt think to check. i have since my moment of purchase, gotten so many saved files and trophys on my system i would like to avoid having to format the system to default losing everything i worked hard for...whats a way around this so i can get onto the playstation network with my ssid?
