my ps3 was working just fine earlyer today. i just updated Gt5 upload from the net. then an hour later i get this message "the hard disks file system is corrupted and will be restored." i keep on pressing it. it just repeats itself. so does this mean i need a new ps3? what about trophies and saved games? what about games that im already half way threw that i already have trophies for?!

At the very least, you may need to format the HDD (maybe in a computer) or get a new HDD.
Chances are, if it's in an endless loop, then your data may be gone.
Try getting to Safe Mode, and running the different utilities, like Rebuild Database, Restore File System, update firmware.

i found out how to go to safe mode. hold on/off button until it doube beeps fast. then i hit system restore. but as for my other question. what about trophies that ive already earned in games?

do a safe mode option 5 which formats the hdd, all data is lost
1. turn off the ps3
2. hold down the power button
3. release the power button after the third beep
4. repeat steps 2 and 3
5 plug the controller in to the ps3
6 push the ps button
7. select option 5
8 go through the process of formatting the ps3
9. it should work!

So long as you sync your trophies on a regular basis then any trophies earnt will be fine, basically if you synced just before your PS3 had issues then you'll be fine, in any event they are not stored on the PS3, once synced they are stored on Sony's servers.
