When fans make a translation patch for a game that wasn't released in north america, do I get ban by download and translate the game?

I just want to know if I get banned by downloading a translation patch for a game like Tales of Vesperia, the PS3 version is only avaliable in japanese, but there's some fan made translation patch to be released and I really want to play the game. Do I get banned if I use the patch made by fans?

How do you download a patch and have it work? Unless you're circumventing the system, I don't see why anyone would care. Just curious.

Not really, no. The patch ins't out for download yet, but I do like to play Tales of Vesperia and I love to play online with my friends too...
