I kept getting an error too so I just kept trying and I eventually got it.  I plugged my PS3 into my computer with a USB cable so I think that may of helped a little.

I wound up just utilizing my USB stick.  (If you use this method, make sure you make a folder called "PS3" and place a folder in that called "UPDATE" and then place the update file in that folder.  Without this, it will not work.  Also, don't put the quotes on your file names either.

I was never able to get the network download to work. I had to do the update over USB using a USB key (must be 120MB or greater).

To do this create a directory on the USB drive named "PS3" (yes, CAPS are important). In the "PS3" directory create a directory named "UPDATE". Now you should have \PS3\UPDATE.

In this directory save the .PUP file from Sony. It can be found here: http://dus01.ps3.update.playstation.net/update/ps3/image/us/2007_0524_fd9887626f734b46b271aec58e827c...

I hope this helps.

We could never get the update to work through the Internet connection (Error 8002F994). I did it using the USB port, just like you said, and it worked like a charm. Thanks!

I have an early PS3 - got the error too.
I think the earlier post must be 1.80, because my PS3 still wanted me to update again after a successful update.
File was 113,240kB
Downloaded to :\PS3\UPDATE
Updated my PS3.
But now update 1.82 is required.
I am trying to get the update 1.82 from here:
http://www.us.playstation.com/PS3/Network/Updates/default.html
If you are not successful downloading the entire 110mb file (like me), then the download might stop at 69,587kb.
The PS3 gave me this error when trying to install that smaller file, "The data is corrupted.  (80029C68)"

So I am still trying to download the full PS3UPDAT.PUP ver1.82

Exactly the same thing has happened to me as well.  Based upon other posts, I switched from Internet download to PC download but now the 1.82 update stops at 69.587MB rather than the full size.  When I plug this into the PS3, corrupted file.

Anyone know how to work around this?
