I'm having the same issues, used the open DNS and got an hour or so of activity, but tonight DNS errors, logs on for 5 sec and connection is lost, have wired connection as well.  Have Cox and Belkin router.

That didn't work.  I had all five things and even tried the trick posted in the OP.  Neither of the two worked.  I get a Succeeded for "Obtain IP Address," but a failed for "Internet Connection," despite the fact the internet works just fine.  I've even swapped cords, trying to see if maybe the cord itself doesn't work.

Re: Solution for your DNS error (80710102) problems! (Works for all ISP's)

I think I might of finally discovered the source of my problem.  One of the parts (pronges?) on the inside of my ethernet port might be damaged.  Today, I got an idea to try and see if a wireless connection would work.  With that in mind, I took my PS3 to a friend's, since they had a wireless connection.  I tested it and after a tries, it worked.  It seems my ethernet port might be damaged.  I think it's because I've taken the connection in and out so many times while moving my PS3 between rooms that not only did the snap-on piece that holds my cord in place break, but so did one of the things that's needed for it to detect the connection.

Nevertheles, I'm planning to solve this problem once and for with buying a wireless router, so I won't need to move anything except the PS3, controller (and cords), and power cord.  I have AV jacks hooked up to three of the four TVs in my house and a plug-in on one other TV.  Considering I have another spare computer cord (which seem to work with PS3s to), I might use that for the third room, so the only thing I'll need to move with be the PS3 and the controller(s).  Anyhow, it seems my problem had nothing to do with my router, the update, or my internet.

I tried this using the DNS addresses you provided and it didn't work. Then I saw other suggestion to disable the upnp and now it works! thanks.

GLad you got yours to work. BTW I just posted the Youtube video, it's not me.  Everybody else you have to get your ISP info and DNS info by using ipcong/all in the command screen on your computer.
