PS3 Ethernet Problem

8 replies 197 views Edited Sep 24, 2013

I'm having this recurring problem. I live in a dorm and I've been using the connection that is provided. All of last year my PS3 would connect and be able to detect any wifi in the area. I turned on my PS3 after 4 months and it was detecting wifi signals and all fine. Then all of a sudden it stopped detecting any wifi signals. I usually play with Ethernet. That stopped working as well.

THE PROBLEM: What happens is that when I turn on my PS3 it connects with the Ethernet just fine, then after about 15-30 seconds the ethernet green light shuts off and disconnects from the Network. Sometimes it lasts 5 min on rare occasion but not longer that. It just shuts off prior to blinking extremely fast. This has never happened before and frankly it's frustrating. I've turned my PS3 on and off a million times and the same thing happens. I also can't detect my wifi or any wifi for that matter (router is like 10 cm away from my PS3(. It has nothing to do with the ethernet cable because it works perfectly fine on my laptop and any other device. HELPPPP. I've even formatted my PS3 and everything. Still nothing. HELPPP

If you live in a dorm, you may need to contact the office there. It usually has something to do with sign in and protocol using their network.

It has nothing to do with that. I used it all of last year and they specifically emailed us about it. Everyone else's PS3 works fine.

Go into Settings>Network Settings and set it up again. If you are using an ethernet cable use wired. If you are not using an ethernet cable use wireless.

Not sure then. Can you take it elsewhere and see if you still have the connection problem? Or, have you tried to set it up with a Static IP and different Primary and Secondary DNS Servers than the default ones(I use 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) and then put the new Static IP in DMZ on the router?

Google "how to set up a PS3 with a static ip" and "how to put a ps3 in dmz" lots of guides with pics. Very easy.
