FYI I've been having issues with error 80029564 while trying to install Gran Turismo 5 updates ever since I bought the game this summer. I just gave up on the updates and signing into the PSN. But I tried again today, and finally got it to work.
I had tried 3 different hard drives (5400, 7200 and SSD). I tried ethernet and wifi. I tried manually setting the MTU speed. I tried disabled media center connections. None of these things worked. I also tried updating my Verizon FIOS router to put the PS3 in the DMZ, and interact directly with the internet. This isn't as secure, but it seems possible that the router blocks packets from time to time in false positive DDOS detections. On the first attempt with the DMZ set up, it failed.
Finally, I installed WinGate 8 free proxy server software on my desktop PC, set the port to 8080, turned on the WWW Proxy, and configured the PS3 to use that Proxy. This time, IT WORKED!
The weird thing is that the Proxy dashboard only shows a small .txt file being pulled down by the PS3, and not all the .pkg files, but they all installed without issue. Perhaps it was really the DMZ combined with a second attempt, or just a lucky coincidence, but it may be worth a shot for you to try this.
I also having this problem with all of my digital download games. I used to install my CoD Ghost and LR:FFXIII Voice pack by setting DNS and change my MTU from 1500 to 800, but it seem not to work now. I re-downloaded FFX/X-2 HD Remaster like 7 times now and it size is like 23gb!! it's really frustrating. From 2010 to 2014 and this problem still havent fix, **bleep** Sony.
After 20+ times of re-loading 23gb files of FFX/X-2 and 10+ times of other games, I went back to the basic. No DMZ, no DNS and MTU changing. I just downloaded it from "View Download" in PSN not from "Download List" with no background downloading like other post's suggestion, but this time I TURNED ALL POWER SAVING OPTION OFF. It might be coincidennce of what ever, but it seem when your TV screen tunded dimmed by power saving it seem to drop ur downloading performance.
welll if you've been downloaded like 600gb corrupted files like me, couple more tries dont hurt right? If it's failed try to DMZ ur PS3 and re-download it with this method. Hope this will help.
Previously i have tried the portforwarding and MTU edit methods to no success. Then I came across a fix that made perfect sense (I believe its from a Rockstar Forum thread), and it worked wonders.
It is basically to 'safe boot' the PS3 and clean any corrupted files / sectors from the HDD.
For a complete guide to do this, please visit the below llink:
After booting in safe mode, all you need to do is choose option 3: Restore File System.
To me, this made perfect sense because multiple installs didnt work, so its not only applicable to that one download that I noticed this error in the first place. And by stopping at 14% consistenly, then it seemed like it cant write for some reason (whereas a bad DL would stop at a random percentage). Anyways, I might be wrong, but i hope this method helps with this issue.
