Error Code: 80710102 (DNS Error) and network timed out
Using wired connection directly to the internet. With PSN automatic network settings.
When I start my PS3, I'm able to sign in. But within less than minute, I'm getting signed out. When I attempt to re-sign in, I either get the DNS error or Playstation network has timed out. The same cable modem wired connection works fine with my PC.
When I go through the internet connection test. It reconnects to PSN. Only to be signed out seconds later.
I've tried using the Google DNS with no luck and I've disabled the media server.
Any suggestions? Thanks
I don't have a router. I have cable modem. When I want sign in to PSN, I have to disconnect ethernet from my PC and connect it to my PS3. As I said before, I have no problems connecting to the internet with my PC using the same modem.
google--> "ps3 DMZ setup (your router brand)"
put your ps3 in the dmz of your router, with a static ip#
He has a wired connection!

Since Google DNS and OpenDNS aren't working, then it's not a DNS problem. It's something else.
Has your PS3 ever worked before when connected straight to the modem?
The reason I ask is because some internet service providers have a database of what devices are allowed to connect through their network. Your PS3 might be getting bumped off the internet connection because your internet service provider doesn't see it as a registered device. Give the internet service provider a call, and see if there's any reason why you couldn't hook up another device straight to the modem.
Are you using the automatic settings when connecting the PS3 to the internet? Manual settings tend to cause havoc with the ISP.
Also, try resetting all settings on your PS3 with the Restore Default Settings in the PS3 System Settings. It won't delete your data, but make sure you do not confuse it with the Restore PS3 System option. That one is bad.
I've always used automatic settings. The only time I've used manual is when I changed the DNS to see if it would connect and to keep me signed in. Its currently set to automatic settings.
I've also restored the default settings. It didn't fix the issue.
