I understand this is an ancient post but do you know if this is possible for MULTIPLE PS3s???

I currently have 3 PS3s and 2 Vitas which all show NAT Type 3. Do you have any suggestions?

Re: The ULTIMATE ultimate guide to fixing your NAT

Thanks a lot for the post and information. I have struggled with this for some time. I still have a problem, I think. I suspect that at some point my router was configured incorrectly and perhaps you can help me with this. My router is a Dlink. I have a speedstream DSL modem. The default gateway seems to be the modem not the router. Is this ok or does it need to be corrected? Should I disable the Dhcp server on the modem and allow the router do this? As things stand both the router and the modem are configured as DHCP servers. Thanks again for any info you can pass along.

I have a Motorola NVG510 ADSL2+ modem/router and can't seem to fix UPnP not available.

UDP Port

  • 88

TCP Port

  • 9293

Both protocol Ports

  • 80
  • 443
  • 465
  • 983
  • 3478-9
  • 5223
  • 9293
  • 10070-80

are forwarded to the PS3 static IP.

I reset the modem after the changes to ensure they were active and confirmed via the PC.

The Network connection test passes all except UPnP "Not Available"

Not sure how next to proceed.

Verify your Belkin is current with its firmware.

Don't use port forwarding.

The two configurations that I would try would be

1: DMZ one of the PS3s and utilized UPnP for the other two.

2: Utilize UPnP on all 3.

I don't know anything about the Belkin firmware but if it is newer and the firmware is current UPnP should work.

Another issue that most do not realize is that their ISP installed a Modem/Router all in one. Then you have your router behind that. If that is the case you need to either access the ISP modem/router and put it in to Bridge mode or call your ISP and have them do this.

The same holds true for any DSL connections. With DSL, if possible, you want your Router to do handle the login credentials (PPPoE) so that the DSL modem acts as a modem and not a firewall. I know some ISPs do not allow this but you can try.

The reason this needs to be done is that the ISP firewall is blocking ports even though your router is letting them through they are not getting to your router. Bridge mode will turn off their firewall and basically make your router the frontline.

Re: The ULTIMATE ultimate guide to fixing your NAT

I did a quick draw up to show the difference.

Bridge.png

The top half shows what could be the setup if you have the ISP modem/router which a lot of ISPs are installing now. Their device acts as the firewall and blocks ports. That device is given the WAN IP address, your address on the internet, from the ISP.

If you change that device to Bridge Mode it will turn off the firewall and basically be a converter, from Coax (cable) to Ethernet and now your router will be the firewall and it will recieve the WAN IP address from the ISP. Now your your port forwarding/DMZ/UPnP will work.

With DSL you have to do this as well. DSL requires authentication for connection, PPPoE. Most routers handle this process, I know some don't handle different versions of DSL so this isn't going to help, but if you put your DSL modem in to bridge and setup your router to handle the authentication this will solve the issue as well.

I am trying to think of an easy way to describe this but I cannot think of any real world concepts that would help off of the top of my head.
