Firmware 3.61 issues?

17 replies 37 views Edited May 22, 2011

Is there any truth that the latest firmware is the cause of older models freezing up? I havent got a response from sony but I can't use my system to play games or watch blu rays without it freezing about 5 minutes in. I dont want to waste time and money getting it repaired if the firmware is to blame with a quick fix.

Stuff like this sucks i know, but i think that since Sony doesnt manufacture the fat models anymore that they don't have to support them, it sucks i know, but what can ya do.

so iver the last few days  have been putting my 80 gig PS3 through the paces with blu rays and gaming both DLC and disk based. I also added an external temp sensor. I have found liettl it any variance in the systems peformance. I dont think this is a software issue.

It just seems odd that all of a sudden many systems are acting up after this latest firmware issue. At first the blame was on LA Noire, which I have never played, but Rockstar blamed the firmware. Im just waiting for Sony to mail me back with a proper answer.

I forgot to add that it seems to be launch 20 and 60gb systems. I haven't read any issues with the 80gb

Mine is a 60g. No problems. That has nothing to do with it though.Firmware cannot harm your PS3. I also have a slim 120g that has equally been unharmed.

Yes, firmware can and will mess up the system functionality. More than likely the data was corrupted when being downloaded. I've experienced this myself. One update disable my disc drive completely, wouldn't read games or blu-rays completely. Called sony and of course they said it was my disc drive that went bad, when in fact I was playing games the day before. I searched the forums and found that other people where having the same issue. One poster said to delete the cache, which will also delete the recent update, and redownload it. It worked.

Mine is recognizing DVDs but not Blurays.....I was watching blurays right before this update so I'm blaming the firmware update.

So if your system completely bricked while watching a new DVD would you blame the DVD?
