I have a old 40 gig hard drive from a ps3, older firmware on it. Could I switch to it or does the ps3 remember the last firmware installed???

Switching hard drives won't help in this regard as hard drives are registered to specific consoles. So if you try taking your old 40GB HD into your new console, it will ask to reformat it. However doing this may allow you to attempt to reinstall the firmware on a blank slate.

Ever since i did the new update for the ps3, ill start say playing a game on fifa... & after like the 1st half online it cuts off or if i use the browser it does the same thing after not very long, its not the router though because my Laptop wii xbox all connect too it fine and stay connected, so does anyone know what the actual problem could be?

i have a sony ps3 160Gb problems such as: internet browser crashing, games randomly disconnect, unable to use netflix, (or even the idea that crackle won't remember login info), and i want to know why you won't support operating systems for turning ps3 into a computer. don't get me wrong its a good platform but when the box i got the ps3 in says "it only does everything" yet i can't use it like a computer and play games online the same. then why don't i just ship it back and get my $ back
